Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › .flv videos play in FireFox & IE, .mp4 do not play at all. HTML5: video file not found

  • mtdurham 10 years, 7 months ago

I am new to this video stuff and this plugin for WordPress 4 is the best I have found. But I am still having a problem.

I used the encoder, HandBrake, as recommend and converted my .flv to a .mp4 and I also have .webm and .mov versions of this file.

When I try to embed the .flv file it works great for Firefox and IE. But when I use my iPad I get an error HTML5: video file not found.

I tried using just the .mp4 version and ALL browsers now get the HTML5: video file not found. UGGGG! After spending 5 hours trying to solve this, I am asking for your help.

I am using WordPress 4.0 and have added the FV Player plugin. My videos are on my server. Here is the .mp4 one: http://thedurhamcorporation.com/CCNA_Security_Certification_Overview.mp4 The other version are there too.

Here is the code I am using to embed the video on my site:
    [fvplayer src="http://thedurhamcorporation.com/CCNA_Security_Certification_Overview.mp4" width="640" height="480" splash="http://thedurhamcorporation.com/CCNA_Security_Certification_Overview.jpg"]

The webpage it is loaded onto is: http://www.certificationtrainingsolutions.com/product/cisco-ccna-security-advanced-lab-kit-for-640-554-exam/

My goal is to have only one or two versions of the file and them work on FireFox, IE, iPad/iPhone, and Android.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Michael,

thank you for your question. MP4 will play in around three quarters of browsers. It won’t play in Opera, Mac Firefox and any Linux (or opensource) browser. You need a WebM video or user needs Flash plugin to play that. FLV format absolutely requires the Flash plugin. I wonder how we can put these basic HTML5 video rules into a drawing, as we often explain this to our users.

The URL for your MP4 file doesn’t work: http://thedurhamcorporation.com/CCNA_Security_Certification_Overview.mp4

Please fix that and then use our video checker to report any playback issues: http://foliovision.com/player/faq#properties-built-checker-report-playing

    Thanks,
    Martin

I fixed the problem with my URL, I had typed .m4v as the file extension, I fixed that; now its .mp4 and of course if you just click on the file name, it will not work as it is just its URL location.

I went into WP Admin and did a Check Videos and saw a spinning wheel for a few seconds then nothing. I also clicked on Check Template and got the following response:

html5.js not found in your template! Videos might not play in old browsers, like Internet Explorer 6-8. Read our instrutions here.

Template checker has changed. Just open any of your videos on your site and see if you get a red warning message about JavaScript not working.

    FV Flowplayer script found: http://www.certificationtrainingsolutions.com/wp-content/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/flowplayer/fv-flowplayer.min.js?ver=2.2.22!

    jQuery library 1.7.1+ found: http://www.certificationtrainingsolutions.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.11.1!

One thing I noticed is that in the link at the bottom of you message, it says “Double check Settings -> FV WordPress Flowplayer -> “Front-end video checker” is set to “Enabled”” This option is NOT in my menus anywhere.

I do have .flv, .mov, .webm versions on the site too. I am not too worries about the lesser used browsers but I need the mains to work.

Hopefully the change I made and the info above can help figure out what is wrong.

    Thank You
    Michael

    Hello Michael,

    1) the URL to the MP4 needs to work in your browser (unless it’s a RTMP stream which is not going through HTTP; of course the handling of the file type might depend on what browser you use). I can’t get any of this to load:

    ‘http://thedurhamcorporation.com/CCNA_Security_Certification_Overview.m4v’

Let’s not worry about this for now and see what our video checker reports (number 3 below).

    2) regarding the “Check template” warning about html5.js, could you please follow the link it contains and then let us know if you have any questions?

    3) Front-end video checker – actually it’s named “Disable admin video checker” and it’s in “Sitewide Flowplayer Defaults” group of Settings -> FV WordPress Flowplayer. Thank you for pointing out the mistake.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Sandy,

There’s lots of documentation here: https://foliovision.com/player

It sounds like a hosting issue (upload limits). If you’d like some hands on help feel free to grab a pro support incident.

Otherwise you can host on YouTube (free) or Vimeo Plus/Pro ($60/year).

    Hello Sandy,

this looks like an issue with your WordPress. You might want to have a look at some troubleshooting guide, like here: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/59763/how-to-fix-http-error-when-uploading-images

You can also try to upload something small (like an image) and see if that one goes well.

    Thanks,
    Martin
