black line after playing video in ios safari

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › black line after playing video in ios safari

  • smith234 11 years, 6 months ago

The plug in works fine but I notice in IOS Safari after playing a video and going back to main page there is a black line. It’s in Ipad and Iphone. It only does this after playing a video. In order to get the black line gone you have to close that tab and open it back up.
It might be because of the black border around the video. I have the turned off but it still shows. How do I remove it?

    Hello Smith234,

    I can’t replicate the issue.

Could you please provide a URL where we can see this? Or use “Send to Foliovision” feature of the admin video checker (read “How to check my video properties using the built-in checker and how to report video not playing” in our faq).

Is it happening when you are not logged in? Is it happening with the default WordPress template?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

It has to do with a black line on top of the video and on the left side. When using the responsive css on ios it shows the black line and after viewing a video it stays on the webpage even when on a different page until you close the tab.
Also I am not using the default theme. I emailed the link.

    Hello Smith234,

that’s weird. Are you using any Ajax loading for your pages? Normally visiting another page initiates a new page rendering, so it’s not possible that some elements stay and mess up the display.

Otherwise this seems like a problem with your “iDevice”. Have you tried some other iPad/iPhone?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

It does it on my ipad also. It seems to work good on the computer though. When on the computer I don’t see a line above the video and on the left side. Online on a ios device.

    smith234 12 years ago

I am not for sure if it has a ajax or not. I use some plugins.

    smith234 12 years ago

Where in the Css is the black line so I can remove that. That should fix it.

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

player border can be turned off in Settings -> FV WordPress Flowplayer -> Player Skin -> border.

However I don’t see how it can possibly affect your other pages after viewing the video. Are you sure it’s not there even if you don’t play the video at all and go directly to that different page?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

I just checked it again. You can go to a page with the video and then to a different page and it showed up. You don’t even have to play a video to make it show. It doesn’t show until you go to a page with a video.
I have the border turned off and it’s still there.

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

so it might be some CSS conflict.

You can use your browser developer tools to figure out element is in getting bad CSS from our plugin, although it’s not likely. Are you sure that it happens without out plugin? Does it happen with the default template?

Also, if you just buy our license, then we can have a look at your site directly and come up with a fix for the issue.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

It only showed up when I go to a page with a video from the fv wordpress flowplayer plugin.

    smith234 12 years ago

If I could find where in the flowplayer css that has the border I would turn it off but I can’t find it. It isn’t on line 6.

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

If my suggestion about where to turn off the border didn’t helped, it must be something else.

I’m sorry, but I already posted you all the suggestions above. We can’t go further without that or having a look at your site (a screenshot, or a license required).

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

If i knew where in the CSS that the border code was I can fix it.

    smith234 12 years ago

    http://revivalishere.org/sermons/revival-is-here-tv-program-9/

There is a link. I pray that can be fixed. Going to that then going back to the main page it still shows the line. The JWplayer plugin doesn’t do that.

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

I’m not seeing it on iPad OS 5.1.1. When I come back to homepage, I don’t see any weird border.

All I can see is a 1px left border on the video player. You can also try to set the Player Skin -> Canvas to match the background color of your site and see if that helps. This problem might be caused by using a splash image with different aspect ratio than the video.

If that doesn’t help perhaps you have some custom app installed. I’m also seeing some errors on iPad error console, so you should check these out.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

It must be a bug in ios 7 then. I changed the splash image still same thing. Thank you for your help.

    smith234 12 years ago

Does the Pro have more options for skinning?

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

we plan to include some other good skins, but currently we are working more on improving the new features, like playlists or enabling a lightbox popup support.

We also offer a service of a complete styling of the player to fit your site.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

we are able to find a fix for the iOS 7 issue. It will be fixed in next release of FV Flowplayer (most likely tomorrow).

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

That is awesome, Thank you very much. It blocked some text. I am glad you fixed it. Praise God.

    smith234 12 years ago

I like the playlist. I haven’t tried it with several videos but it seems to work nice. The skin isn’t bad though. It would just be nice to have a playlist in black on the right side to click on instead of the bottom but it isn’t a bad look. I just wanted that bug fixed and glad you all found it.

    smith234 12 years ago

I don’t see the update yet.

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Smith234,

we released the new version just now. It was delayed because of our improvements of the playlist system and interface.

Could you please let us know if it helped with your issue?

Tho get the playlist items on the right side, you can try to set the player alignment to left (either CSS or enable “Align” in Settings -> FV WordPress Flowplayer -> Post Interface Options), set it width to something lower than the content width and then the playlist items should show up there. It’s really just a matter of CSS, but we could include this as a preset as it’s attractive.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 12 years ago

The fixe worked. I like the fix for the playlist screens. I think I will keep them at the bottom. That works better on mobile. The black line is gone. Thanks.

    Hi Martin,

I’ve only one new issue with your plugin:

Visit my page with an Apple-IOS-based device like IPad oder IPone will leave a thiin black line (or sometimes two lines) on every page that you call after visiting a page with FVFlowplayer-Content.

Please see my site (I have a license) on your apple mobile device for an example. On an other device than Apple (like a Samsung S3) the issue doesn’t appear.

    regards
    Michael

    Hi Michael,

I tested this out and this seems to be caused by one of the OptimizePress CSS files: http://www.auerswald-tutorials.de/wp-content/plugins/optimizePressPlugin/lib/assets/default.min.css?ver=2.1.7.1

Making the web work for you,
    Martin

    Michael H. 11 years ago

    Dear Martin,

I’m sorry, but there’s no context between OptimizePress CSS and fvplugin.

I deleted the plugin, but the behavior is the same (see ….de/fvhome2)

I figured out, that this issue depends on the used link to the video. If I select this soure “http://player.vimeo.com/external/1234.hd.mp4?s=….” then the thin black line appears. If I use https://vimeo.com/1234 there is no line visible.

I like to use the short version of the url (this one beginning with “https://vimeo…”) because that the only possibility to protect my video against illegal download or embedding it on foreign sites (as you did in your example page)

But if I use the preferred url “https://vimemo/myvideonumer” , the autoplay does’nt work.

Btw.: Autoplay never works on mobile devices as IPAD oder IPHONE.

What can I do or what can you do to solve this issue?

    regards
    Michael

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Michael,

    1) Black line – I don’t see if on http://…de/fvhome2 Tested on iPad with iOS 5.1.1.

Make sure you close and re-open the browser tab between the tests. Once this iPad bug occurs, it affects the browser for rest of the session. We noticed this bug before, but it was fixed. It had something to do with manipulating the HTML5 tags and some iPads didn’t liked that.

I see no black line on http://….de/fvhome either, that one is an iframe embed of Vimeo provided by our plugin.

    2) Vimeo videos – “http://player.vimeo.com/external/1234.hd.mp4?s=…..” is the MP4 path, in that case FV Flowplayer plays the video file. But it you enter the Vimeo URL https://vimeo.com/1234 then it just uses iframe to embed the video. That explains the difference.

    3) Autoplay issues – this is not supported by iPad and iPhone, but we will check some JavaScript solution for this for at least iPad. iPhone uses it’s own player, so it may not be possible.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Michael H. 11 years ago

    Martin,
there is still a black line. Perhaps because I’m using a newer version of IOS on my IPad and IPhone? On my device it’s 7.0.2 and 7.0.6

You can see it on start-site for example.

    regards
    Michael

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Michael,

I can see it too. It seems to be caused by the same OptimizePress CSS file. I believe I found a fix.

Please reinstall FV Flowplayer from this ZIP file, it’s the latest development version and let us know if it helps: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/fv-wordpress-flowplayer.zip

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Michael H. 11 years ago

    Hi Martin,

reinstall completed. For the moment I’ve no Ipad available so please check it out by yourself.

Otherwise I’ll have a look later today.

    regards
    Michael

    smith234 11 years ago

The black line is till there after your latest development version.

    Michael H. 11 years ago

    Hi Martin,

I’ve tested it now with my Ipad without any success. The black line still appears

    regards
    Michael

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Michael,

could you please check if it also happens if you disable autoplay for the video?

    Hello Chan,

as you are also our licensed user, I checked your site, but I’m not seeing the problem. I see a black line on both iPad and Safari on your “…2-23-24…” video, but that’s because your video is 16:9 aspect ratio and you inserted it with 600px width which is not divisible by 16. That creates uneven number and causes these issues. We are still looking how to prevent these.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    smith234 11 years ago

I don’t have your developer installed now. I installed your latest release.

    smith234 11 years ago

I changed it to 608 by 342 and it still shows the line. I don’t have autoplay turned on.

    Michael H. 11 years ago

    Hi Martin,

I’m so sorry about but disabled autoplay doesn’t help as you can see.

    regards
    Michael

    smith234 11 years ago

That is a ios bug in the newest ios 7 I think. It did it on bethel.tv and they use jwplayer. Same line in the same place.

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Chan,

thank you for the research and reporting back!

It’s interesting to see that other players have the same problem.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Getting same weird line with html5 player… must be ios bug for sure.

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Aleksandr,

thank you for your report. It appears under some circumstances, which we are trying to narrow down.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    raul 11 years ago

    Hi,

Is there some news about removing the black horizontal line? I have the issue on all Ipads, Iphones with IOS 7.

    Thanks and regards,

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello raul,

the fix (it helped on our test sites) will be available in version 2.2.9 – released later today (hopefully).

    Thanks,
    Martin
