add mobile video to playlist

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › add mobile video to playlist

  • andrew55 5 years, 3 months ago

    1. Hi, on the first video of a playlist, I see it’s easy to add a mobile version of primary video (in Mobile Video field). But when adding 2nd video to the playlist, there is no field to enter a “more compressed” mobile version of primary video. How can I include a mobile version of each primary video within a playlist?

    2. The only extensive documentation I could find for creating playlists is here:

    https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/creating-playlists

In my playlist, I need to “Hide Playlist Items” as mentioned in your help document. But it says this can only be done by directly modifying the shortcode…

    playlist_hide=”true”

Seeing how the playlist now uses database entries, how can I set a playlist to “Hide Playlist Items”

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your questions.

    1. I’ll discuss the possible options of having mobile version of each video in the playlist with the programmer’s team and get back to you.

    2. You are correct, it’s not possible to edit the shortcode parameters in the FV Player database once the playlist is uploaded through the shortcode editor.

In order to edit them, you’ll need to upload the entire playlist first directly as a shortcode in the text editor and further add/specify its parameters within it according to your preferences. Here’s the full list of shortcode parameters which you can use and modify: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/shortcode-parameters#playlists – in your case, you’ll need to use the playlist and playlist_hide parameters.

    Thanks,
    Chiara

    Thank you for the reply.

I’m comfortable working with shortcodes, but you please tell me how to “upload the entire playlist first directly as a shortcode in the text editor”

I can’t seem to find any method/reference for this.

    But, I did find this…

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/new-shortcodes-do-not-work/

It seems to indicate that the playlist won’t work with raw shortcodes, it will only work with database shortcodes. Is this correct?

    Hi Andrew,

Based on the version of FV Player you’re using, you can choose which method is more convenient for you:

Upload the playlist in a form of old shortcode – this will work, but the player won’t show up in the database:

    [fvplayer src="Video/URL 1" playlist="Video/URL 2, Video/URL 3" playlist_hide="true"]

Or, simply go to shortcode editor –> Options –> Playlist Style –> change to Prev/Next – this will hide other playlist items and add Prev/Next buttons to the video. See the demo here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/playlist-styles#prev-next

Let us know which one worked better for you.

    Thanks,
    Chiara

    Hello Andrew,

    1) The mobile video field is a basic feature of the free FV Player. We provided a superior version of it in FV Player Pro: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/quality-switching

And we would actually like to move that feature into the free FV Player to make sure users can get basic quality switching for MP4 videos in the free plugin.

    2) I would suggest that you just keep using the current shortcodes which simply refer to the database ID:

    [fvplayer id="1"]

We could fix that playlist_hide=”true” argument to work with it if it’s added by hand and ensure it’s never removed by the editor.

However is the prev/next playlist not enough? That one already hides the playlist item thumbnails: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/playlist-styles#prev-next

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hi, thanks for all the help. I’ll be upgrading not too far from now.

    But for now, with…

“And we would actually like to move that feature into the free FV Player to make sure users can get basic quality switching for MP4 videos in the free plugin”

…is this something that will happen soon?

If not, when creating playlist, is it possible to add mobile versions for several videos when using old shortcode?

If I could get mobile versions of videos in shortcode, along with playlist_hide argument,, maybe this would be a complete solution?

Martin – the prev/next playlist is nice, but I was hoping to get a playlist setup without arrows and without thumbnails. At end of first video, it just moves to the next video.

    Hello andrew55,

the mobile video field is only supported for a single video player, it doesn’t matter if it’s built using bare shortcode or database.

We could be moving the quality switching from Pro to free plugin for the upcoming 7.5 release which will bring more changes. It might take 2-3 weeks to finish.

However there is a difference in these two features – the FV Player Pro quality switching requires that the video file names follow a certain naming convention. So your desktop videos file name would all have to end -desktop.mp4 and the mobile video would all have to end in -mobile.mp4. That applies for the players where the quality switching is enabled.

I added a new “Hiding the prev/next item buttons in overlay of the Prev/Next playlist style” chapter to our CSS modifications guide: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/css-tips-and-fixes#playlist-prev-next-overlay

    Thanks,
    Martin
