Progress bar preview ala YouTube

    Hi!

Just installed FV pro on my client’s WordPress site and we like it a lot especially with YouTuby skin, do you plan to add progress bar preview frames like YouTube has?

    Would be awesome! (see screenshot)

Apart from that I think it would make much more sense if mouse cursor would switch to pointing finger only when you hovering over control bar buttons, otherwise it should stay as usual pointer, that’s how it is done almost anywhere and it is kinda confusing to have it all over the place, and cursor on volume and progress bar is also ugly.

I’ve shown all my suggestions on the screenshot as well. I think it would make sense to do it completely as YouTube has in the Tuby skin at least.

Thank you very much for your product!

And a little addition into the Youtuby skin thread.

I think the buffered portions of video should be reset once you scroll to another time in the video, otherwise it leaves all sorts of ugly white dashes, which are really confusing ( see screenshot)

Again just like in YouTube, when you switch to different time it resets the buffered progress bar.

    Hello Radmitry,

    thank you for your suggestions.

We wanted to add some quick implementation of the progress bar preview frames, however it might not work with HLS and MPEG-DASH streams. So it’s bit of downside. But perhaps at least for Vimeo videos it could load the preview frames. Do you have you video preview frames generated in some image file too?

We will discuss the your mouse pointer ideas.

These ugly white dashes are actually the portions of video which were already buffered – seeking into these takes no time.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Radimetry,

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

We’ll replace the pointing finger across the video with an arrow, that’s a great idea. We like the vertical bar with dual arrows when on the progress bar and volume as those are modified by dragging left and right. Those are the only two places that a user gets that symbol.

We’re keen to improve our skins though so we’re open to ongoing suggestions. We’ll be making some big improvements to AB roll for instance (twin thin matching timelines above and below the control bar), based on user feedback.

    Cordial regards,

    Alec
