make the transcript button always available and keep subtitles on when toggled

[Solved]

I love the transcript and it’s really useful for my e-learning platform. However, I would like to see to a few changes.

Due to the nature of my audience, viewing subtitles in one language and transcripts in another, is something that is often done. So it would be really cool to have an option to allow the subtitles to stay on when the transcript is toggled. That’s because it can take several seconds to load subs again when you enable them manually.

Also, the transcript toggle button disappears when I turn the option : “disable transcripts automatically” off. I can see no reason to disable that button even if you would want to have the transcript on by default. The user still could find the window distracting in full screen mode, or simply wouldn’t want it for another reason.

I would be very thankful if you were to implement that in a near future version, and even more if you could tell me a way to do what I want today.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello Seorim,

Thanks for all the insight! I’ve done some testing and actually it could be beneficial to let our users have the transcript button even if the transcript is shown by default. I’ll discuss possibilities with our development team and we’ll get in touch with you with more info soon.

    Thanks for using our player,
    Juraj

    Hello Seorim,

we will discuss these issues in our team.

What we are going to fix first will be the subtitle activation – if you enable subtitles in middle of a subtitle line, it won’t show up until another line comes up. That should be improved.

The transcript button also get a highlight if it’s enabled, I wonder if we shouldn’t have that for all the buttons – highlight “CC” if you have selected some subtitles, highlight the video quality button if you have selected some quality and it’s not in Auto mode etc.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Seorim,

the subtitle activation improvement will be part of the new FV Player release.

If you want to give it try faster, you can reinstall FV Player from this link: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/master.zip To do that you will have to first deactivate and delete the current FV Player plugin you are using. WordPress will warn you that you might loose settings and data, but it’s not the case with our plugin, no settings now videos will be lost. Or you can just replace the plugin files via FTP.

I still have to discuss the CC button highlight with Alec.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Seorim,

we will add a “Separate subtitle disabling” setting to Settings -> FV Player Pro -> transcript box. When that is enabled, the subtitles won’t turn off when you enable the transcript.

We will also make it possible to collapse and expand the transcript box in front-end, like the editing boxes when writing a post in WordPress.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    That is awesome! Thanks!

Seeing that I haven’t been able to find the settings yet, I assume the update isn’t out yet? Do you have an approximate schedule?

    Thanks very much.

    Hello Seorim,

we have added a button to collapse/expand the transcript box: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/interactive-transcript

To get this new feature you have to switch FV Player Pro to Beta (here’s how https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta) and then update to the latest version (7.4.38.727.beta). You can also grab a fresh ZIP from https://foliovision.com/my-licenses and switch to Beta afterwards.

    Thanks,
    Martin
