Interactive Transcript Improvements

    Hi,

Thanks for your efforts to create this wonderful player with all the features included.

I’m wondering whether it would be possible for you to consider improvements to interactive transcripts. Particularly I’m looking for the following features:

    1) Selection of a transcript language regardless of a language of current subtitles.
    2) Separate set of transcripts for each item in a playlist
    3) Interaction support for both video and audio
    4) Ability to place transcript text (and chapters) into own external div container (which can be positioned anywhere on the page).
    5) Ability to view a transcript in a lyric mode where each sentence on a separate line.
    6) Display timing for each line in a transcript in a lyric mode (similar to chapters) and how it’s implemented on ted.com
    7) In a lyric mode, ability to loop a sentence x number of times (AB loop)
    8) Styling options in admin panel

    Enjoy your day.

    Regards
    Sergii

    Hello Sergii,

Thanks for this feedback! You have some good points. The transcript feature is relatively new, so we are still doing some improvements and ideas like yours are always very helpful.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Sergii,

That’s a long list. We have to be sure to focus our development efforts wisely. We can’t be everywhere at the same time. I have a test to help narrow the focus.

Imagine you were being charged $50 for each feature on your list we implemented. Which of these features would you be willing to pay for?

    Thanks.

Making the web work for you, Alec

    Hi Eduard and Alec,

I would be willing to pay $50 for the features 1 and 3 each:
    1) Selection of a transcript language regardless of a language of current subtitles. Probably a dropdown menu for users (e.g. via transcript_en, transcript_de shortcodes).
    3) Interaction support for both video and audio.

    Thanks Sergii.

Could you tell me more about what you envision as:

Interaction support for both video and audio.

    Cordial regards,

    Alec

Currently you have a Pro beta feature of interactive transcript support for video.
When I put an mp3 file url in a src field, the player plays back an audio file. So I assume it supports an audio format. But I can’t check whether an interactive transcript works with an audio record since you have only a demo with a video.

If it does, great. For me, it will eliminate a need to create a video file out of mp3 record as a workaround.

In a simple case, I have 1 video and 2 audio files in a playlist to play back with an interactive transcript. So if a video plays, I can see a transcript of the video. If I switch to an audio record in a playlist, the transcript container is refreshed with a transcript of the current audio. And when I click on any line in a transcript, the audio starts playing at that exact moment.

Allow me to join in the conversation :) …

I would be willing to pay for the ability to select which language the interactive transcript should be in for videos with multiple language subtitles.

I recenlty implemented a video with interactive transcript and users (students learning Spanish) of my site just loved it. From a language course perspective, this feature opens up a whole new level of interactive learning online.

Thank you very much for developing this amazing plugin!

    Hi Clod,

Thank you for feedback. May I ask, what exactly do you mean by “Setting for a value for scroll positioning”?

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,
I tried to explain it here

    Hi Clod,

    Ok, now I see.

Setting for a value for scroll positioning – if I understand correctly, you would like to see the highlighted text in the transcript in a more centered position? It currently is not centered precisely, but it also doesn’t touch the upper margin, so I find it quite readable with leaving enough space to show the upcoming text.

Setting to move Interactive Transcript to playlists – we actually have making transcripts work with playlists on our roadmap of future improvements, but first, we must finish reworking the playlist shortcodes in general (which is a longer project). Only after that we can work on adding the transcripts.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hello,

Have there been any updates to implementing transcripts with playlists?

    Martin 7 years ago

    Hello Leho,

we are close to releasing FV Player 7.3 which stores the player configuration in a new database model. That way it will be possible to add this feature.

One of the key features of our video transcript is that it’s part of the page HTML code. I wonder how can we make that work with a playlist. Seems like the transcript of the playlist items will have to be placed in a hidden container, but at the same time it must be indexed by search engines.

    Thanks,
    Martin
