Chromecast works with .mp4 but not WebM videos

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Requests and Feedback › Chromecast works with .mp4 but not WebM videos

  • Byron 3 years ago

I am using the current version of FV Player Pro.
    Multisite: No

    SITE_URL: https://movies.rent
    HOME_URL: https://movies.rent
    Plugin URL: https://movies.rent/wp-content/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer

    FV Player version: 7.5.21.727
    FV Player core version: 7.2.7.2
FV Player license: Valid (next check 2022-04-17 20:44:59 GMT)

I have the “Enable Chromecast” checked under the section Sitewide FV Player Defaults.

I am currently hosting videos on my personal server. So there’s no cloud integration involved.

So when I have a .mp4 movie added to the FV player, I have no issues seeing the Chromecast symbol. I also have no problem casting to my TV from mobile using the Chrome browser on my Android phone. So that is all good. But when I upload the .webm version of the movie, I no longer see the Chromecast button. Nothing. changed. I just went from .mp4 to .webm.

I’ve looked thorough the forums and haven’t see anything that can give me an answer as to why this is. The video itself plays fine. I’m just not seeing the Chromecast button on .webm videos.

    thanks,

    Hello Byron,

thank you for reaching out to us! I apologize for the late answer.

We’ve tested casting .webm videos from our website (https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/quality-switching) and casting worked just fine. Please, try casting the video too, to see if it works for you.

Also, could you please send us a report on your .webm video via our built-in video checker? https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/how-to-use-video-checker The way the video checker works, is that you need to come in as admin and then open the video checker. Then send us a report about the video or screenshot the contents of video checker.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Good day Maria,

I can also cast your videos from your site just fine. The problem I’m having is now nothing is showing the Chromecast feature when it’s a WebM video.

I’ve attached 2 screen shots. The first is the movie in the .mp4 container. The second is in the .webm container.

I can’t use the video checker because I’m not using the Post section. With my theme, there’s a separate Video section that I add the movies in. I’ve attached that screenshot as well. I’ve also attached a screen shot for the boxes that I have checked in setting.

I am not running any special, custom CSS. I’m not doing any JavaScript fancy stuff. Just for some reason I can’t cast WebM.

To clarify, casting .mp4 does work fine.

    Hello Byron,

the video checker should still work, it does not matter how the FV Player is created. If should work with your theme custom field.

    Thanks,
    Martin
