Can “Ad time remaining” messages on Intros/Outros be disabled?

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Requests and Feedback › Can “Ad time remaining” messages on Intros/Outros be disabled?

  • dplum 7 years, 2 months ago

    I’m using FV’s Preroll and Postroll “Ad” feature to play Intro and Outro Videos on my training site.

    These Intros and Outros are NOT REALLY ADS, rather:
    – the Intro plays an animated logo with music intro to each training video
    – the Outro asks the user to save the exercise file(s) they used in the video

    As such, I would like to be able to NOT SHOW the “Ad time remaining” message — Although, perhaps the Skip option would be useful.

    I don’t see any obvious way to make this happen. Might there be one that’s not documented? Or is this a feature request?

    Hello dplum,

    you can use CSS like this:

    .fv-cva-time { display: none }

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,
    Where do I place this CSS?
    I don’t see any CSS code box in the Video Ads tab.

    Hello dplum,

    FV Player doesn’t have a field for custom CSS, but we will discuss adding it.

    You need to put that CSS code to your theme CSS or to any custom CSS field which your theme might have.

    If it doesn’t work, just make sure you improve the selector enough so that it’s effective. Here’s the rule which makes it visible in FV Player Pro CSS:

    .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {
      display: block;
    }

    So with a bit of CSS knowledge it’s not a problem to override that to display: none.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Sorry to belabor this, but my CSS knowledge is not great.

    I’ve pasted the code you’ve given me into WP’s
    Appearance> Theme Options> Advanced Settings
    where I have placed other CSS code

    However, using the following code has not removed the “Ad Time” messages
    – Option 1
    .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {display: block;}
    – Option 2
    .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {display: none;}
    – Option 4
    .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {display: block;} .fv-cva-time {display: none;}

    NONE of these Code Options have made a difference.

    ANY SUGGESTION???

    Hello dplum,

    you can append your wrapper div ID attribute, like this:

    #content .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {display: none;}

    In the worst case you can use !important rule

    Thanks,
    Martin

    So you’re saying that every page that plays a video needs an updated Div?

    I’ve tried the following code at the start of one page, but no success.
    <div ID=”content” .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {display: none;}>

    Do I need to do something else?

    Martin 7 years ago

    Hello dplum,

    every theme has a top level div element in the HTML hierarchy which has an ID which can be used. Or it can be the content column wrapper. So such CSS code can work for your entire website.

    You need to add the rule to your theme CSS file or the custom CSS field of your theme. What you posted above it not valid CSS. It really should be very close to what I posted in my last message.

    We could add an option to hide these video ad times, but I don’t remember any other request regarding that.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,
    It now works!!!
    I went to Appearance> Customize> Additional CSS
    and pasted into the code box there…
    #content .flowplayer.is-cva .fv-cva-time {display: none;}
    Clicked “Publish” and now the Timing message no longer shows.
    Thank you very much!!!

    John, we have little interest in helping our publishers make spammy sites with ads without countdown. I can’t imagine how annoying it is to be trapped by an ad with no controlbar and no way to know how long it will take for the ad to be over.

    If you want to inflict this on your users, you’ll have to modify your CSS file. Any further help on this issue will require a pro support incident.
