Using Onedrive

I’m attempting to use Onedrive for my video repository. I can manage using it with standard HTML5 tags and it works.

But when I try with the plugin. I get a message about a “unsupported video format”

    Any suggestions?

    Hi BigBankClub,

Are you sure OneDrive does support video streaming from their storage servers? We don’t have a great experience with cloud services like Google Drive and similar. They usually are not happy with you, streaming video from their servers and they usually change the source URLs every day or week to prevent you from doing it.

To be honest, we don’t have any experience with One drive so we suggest switching to any officially supported hosting platform like Amazon S3 or BunnyCDN.

    Thanks for using our player,

    Juraj

    Hi BigBankClub,

Juraj is right: the big cloud providers like Google Drive and Dropbox deliberately cripple video streaming. Usually it’s by setting bandwidth too low for anything except SD.

We will set up a One Drive account and test this ourselves though, as we should have empiric data on how well One Drive works for hosting video.

Thanks for being part of Foliovision!

    Hi BigBankClub,

We’ve tested the OneDrive and it’s not capable of video streaming. Their source URLs use an automatic redirection to their website and they restrict videos hosted on their cloud to play in any other player than their own built-in one. I haven’t found any way to “go around” these restrictions they are using on their cloud.

We’re currently working on an article about cloud hosting service that won’t allow you to stream videos from their cloud. It will appear on our Weblog in the next few days.

    Thanks for contacting us,

    Juraj
