Serving Private Videos via Cloudfront

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Serving Private Videos via Cloudfront

  • Angela C. 9 years, 5 months ago

    Hi,

I apologize if this is a repeat question. I have searched the forums and by doing so, I think I’ve confused myself even more.

Anyway, I have read the documentation on Serving Private Videos via Cloudfront but I don’t understand if I am supposed to setup a CloudFront RTMP distribution, a CloudFront HTTP distribution, or both. Can someone please tell me?

Also, if the answer is both and I’m using CNAME, is it possible to use the same CNAME for both distributions?

    Thanks!

    Hello Angela,

you can setup both, although I think the HTTP distribution should be enough as most browsers can play MP4 in HTML5 already and the Flash is not so important.

Each distribution has to use a different CNAME.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Thank you for that information, Martin.

I took a stab at each setup but could not get either to work. I sent the information along with details of what I did to support via the help link in the video player. Is it possible I will get a response on that soon?

    Thanks again!

Disregard for now please! I don’t know exactly what the issue was because I tested and tried again numerous times but I can officially say I’ve seen it work. Let’s just hope I can recreate for the real scenario. :-/

    Thanks!

    Hello Angela,

we have received no video checker submission from your player. Could you please verify that your WordPress install is able to send emails? You can do so by installing a plugin like WP Mail SMTP and sending a test email from its settings page – or perhaps you already use some other plugin.

We do offer a paid pro service for the CloudFront setup: https://foliovision.com/player/pro-setup#fvl-form-9370 I’ll be leaving for Christmas until the New Year, but I can have a look into this on this weekend.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi vishakha!

    * Did you create S3 bucket with all the permissions?
    * Please make sure you copied the whole key including “—–BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY—–” and ends with “—–END RSA PRIVATE KEY——)”.and entered them in FV player settings.

    Thanks,

    Lucia

How to get the Cloudfront URL of the video? Do you have a tutorial for that? I’ve been searching for that for over 1 week now but I didn’t find anything. I tried to find S3 fox add on but it looks like it’s not working anymore. Please help me out.

    Hi Noel,

The CloudFront video URL should look like this:

    mydomainname.cloundfront.net/path/to/the/video

Instead of yourdomainname should be your mapped CDOMAIN name, you can see it in this guide at step 13.

    Thanks for using our plugin,

    Juraj

Do I need to use Cloudfront for my videos inside my membership site?

    Hi Noel,

I don’t understand what exactly do you mean by your question. If you want to protect your videos against downloading software you will need to serve them via CloudFront or you can encrypt them if you want the best level of protection. If you simply want to hide your videos behind membership paywall you don’t need CloudFront at all.

In the case you want to set up a video membership site you can use our PayPerView add-on.

    Thanks for contacting us,

    Juraj

These instructions show how to do this with the root user, but AWS no longer allows the root user to be configured this way. You need to update these for other IAM users, which are not access the same way, nor do they seem to have the same key settings as the root user.

    HI Russ,

Thanks for letting us know about the issue with IAM users. We’ll be sure to update the documentation to provide some more information on how to set it up Cloudfront with an IAM user.

AWS support is astonishingly difficult to work with and their documentation is nearly non-existent (slowly improving, thank heavens). We are easy to work with and our documentation is fairly good. But there’s always room to do better and we will.

Speaking of setting up video hosting, Russ, I recommend our FV Coconut workflow with Digital Ocean Spaces. It’s just as secure, far easier to set up and far cheaper (about 5x cheaper) than Cloudfront.

If I have Adobe Media Encoder, can I just encode using that and then load from Digital Ocean, rather than using Coconut? What is Coconut adding that Adobe isn’t?
