How to handle FVFlowplayer, so I control it through custom buttons?

[Solved]

  • Spyr 11 months, 3 weeks ago

I am building a multimedia site, with WordPress, Elementor Pro and Pods plugins,
and I want to put an expandable media player on the header and feed it with either YouTube or SoundCloud links, that are relevant to the post on the current page.
So, a post has two buttons that when pressed, will change the “source” of the player on the header and play the new media from scratch.

If I can achieve this I may discuss custom player (play/ pause buttons made by me).

I thought I could just throw a player on the header and use shortcodes that are triggered by buttons, but I wasn’t able to achieve even having a button execute any shortcode, let alone the FV player’s ones.

Any thoughts, tips and examples on how to do this are welcome.

Important note: I am not a programmer and use mostly widgets and AI-generated scripts.

    Thank U

    Hello Spyr,

My recommendation would be to define 2 FV Player video custom fields rather than just storing the YouTube and SoundCloud links: https://foliovision.com/player/developers/video-custom-fields

The advantage is that you then get a working preview of the video in your post editing and it’s also stored in a way which FV Player expects – so you can then benefit from video position storing for your users and the build-in video stats for videos and also for users.

That way you only have to switch from one player to another with your button.

I’m also not sure if SoundCloud does support 3rd party players.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    @Martin
Thank you very much for your support.

    That was my final goal.
I use two fields in every post, each one for every URL.
I managed dome of my goals using the Javascript API references:
    https://foliovision.com/player/developers/javascript-guide.

On the SoundCloud side, I had a misunderstanding which was my real problem.
I will tell it as I understand it:
The SoundCloud is on the oEmbed protocol thing for the WordPress and its URLs may be played by some player plugins. Most of them have no API, it is what it is from their GUI.
FVPlayer unfortunately, does not support the oEmbed thing, just YouTube URLs,

If I got it wrong, please current.

    Hello Spyr,

FV Player does not support SoundCloud as it’s primarily a video player.

It seems to me you can use the FV Player Video Custom Field for your video and then your own code for the SoundCloud player and switch between these.

    Thanks,
    Martin
