Cannot figure out how to use FV Player in new WP page – no buttons

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Cannot figure out how to use FV Player in new WP page – no buttons

  • Cat 6 years, 9 months ago

Please help. I don’t even know where to begin. One of the last WP updates installed a new posting interface is one complete mystery – no text, confusing buttons, and no FV Player button anywhere to be found.

I could use the same FV Player shortcode I’ve been using to embed video, but I’m specifically looking for a way to enable subtitles. I turned subtitles on in the FV Player Settings, but I don’t see the CC button on any of my videos.

Also, I can’t find any documentation on how and where to upload the subtitle file – I’m assuming it’s to the same folder that the video is in, and that it has to have the exact same name, with a .vtt (or is it .srt now) extension. But I’d really like some confirmation.

    Can anyone please help?

    Hi Cat,

To help you solve this problem, we need to know which exact version of WordPress caused this issue. Could you please provide your System info for us? You can find it at:
WP Admin back-end -> Settings -> FV Player -> Tools -> System Info

(You can simply copy it into this thread, we won’t post public any of your sensitive information)

For the subtitles, to insert subtitles to your video we recommend using our shortcode editor. There you can simply add .vtt files and select as which language the subtitles will show at CC menu. Here’s our documentation on that-link. Also please notice that you can open the shortcode editor via our FV Player database.

Thank you for your response, Juraj. I have figured out some of the problem. The button is no longer on the posting page, it is now in the left hand menu.

I was able to use the FV Player playlist to add the videos and subtitles, then embedded them into my WordPress pages. However, the subtitles are playing sporadically on some of my videos. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

I updated my WordPress version to 5.2 just now. I’m hoping that was the issue. However, I’m at a loss as to why the subtitles would have worked perfectly for the first couple of videos all the time, but only sporadically on the most recent videos. I will continue to investigate and cross my fingers.

    Thanks again.

Well, I thought I had finally gotten subtitles to work on my WordPress videos. Today, they are no longer working. It is imperative that they work, because the videos are for an online class, and we are required to have working closed captions for any hearing-challenged students that are enrolled. I’m quite frustrated, as these subtitles involved hours over days of work. They absolutely must work – it is not an option.

I used the FV Flowplayer shortcode to assemble the videos and used the Subtitles tabs to load the subtitles. The first 4 videos I assembled using the plugin’s playlist played fine, and the subtitles also played, though they always took about 10 seconds to show up. They worked fine as recently as yesterday. Today, they no longer work, in any browser.

I would appreciate any help at all, as I’m pretty much at the end of my options.

    Hi Cat,

As I’ve written earlier, your system info would be very helpful for us. You can find it at:
WP Admin back-end -> Settings -> FV Player -> Tools -> System Info

(You can simply copy it into this thread, we won’t post public any of your sensitive information)

Also, best would be if you could do a little testing on possible JavaScript errors. Simply please open the JavaScript console of your browser, here’s how: link

Then open the page with your video and play it. See if any error message for the subtitles comes up.

    Thanks,
    Juraj

    Hi Cat,

We’re happy to slowly track down the issue with you in case it’s related to FV Player and not the other software on your site. If you are looking for web development help figuring out what’s gone wrong with your site, please book a pro support incident. In that case, we’ll log in and track down the issue ourselves without your active participation.

    Thanks.
