How to create a video lightbox

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › How to create a video lightbox

  • cribeiro 11 years, 7 months ago

    Hi,

I am looking for a solution to the following

    1) How to create an overlay pop up?
you click on an image or sentence and the video opens on a pop up. This is particularly interesting when having several videos on the same page avoiding clutter

    thanks

    Hi Cribeiro,

we will discuss this in our team and come up with our recommended solution. It’s not an easy task, but it would help to have a working system ready or thought out for our users.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Kemal 11 years ago

Any news on this – I’m interested as well – overlay style.

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Kemal,

we are a bit behind on our schedule on this. The complication is that we want to find an existing lightbox plugin for WordPress which would work with our FV Flowplayer plugin, so there would be a single library for lightbox effect instead of two.

If this feature is important for your work, we can accelerate the development if you can purchase our pro plugin support or our FV Flowplayer license: http://foliovision.com/wordpress/pro-install

    Thanks,
    Martin

Martin, could you please update the world on lightbox status?

Perhaps we could release the feature now as well as we’ve been talking about it for a long time.

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Kemal,

our lightbox integration is ready, and we are really close to release the full pro extension with lot of other interesting features.

    Thanks,
    martin

This could be something we are interested in as well.

Please let me know when it is released

    Thanks

    Gary

    Hello Gary,

sorry about the delay, I was on a holiday and your message slipped through.

If you buy our FV Flowplayer license, or if you have one, you can become a member of our beta testing team and see this in action in FV Player Pro.

    Quick demo: ‘http://martin.domainearl.com/2014/05/fv-player-pro-lightbox’

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Gary,

FV Player Pro was just released as an addon for licensed users of FV Flowplayer. In the moment when you enter the license key into the plugin, the Pro addon will auto-install.

If not, check the plugin settings screen for retry.

If everything works, the shortcode editor will have the lightbox checkbox in it. We are preparing the documentation.

    Thanks,
    Martin

My plugin is updated and the lightbox is beautiful! Very excited. :D

I do have a question… what is the ideal size for the splash images being used in a playlist?

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Debbie,

the playlist thumbnails are set to 120 pixels wide and 80pixels tall. This can be changed in CSS.

We could make it an option as well, but this is something to think out carefully, as there are million and one ways of customizing playlist look and feel, so if you have a good suggestions, we would be happy to hear about it.

Please let us know if there is anything else.

    Thanks,
    Martin

I would like additional documentation. I don’t understand you people releasing features after 7 months with zero docs.

    Hi Cribeiro,

Thanks for your suggestion. The lightbox feature is brand new. We are working on additional documentation now.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks for being part of Foliovision!

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Cribeiro,

    the documentation was posted: http://foliovision.com/player/how-to-use-lightbox

If you have a license, just put in the license code into the plugin and that will auto-install the pro-extension: http://foliovision.com/player/user-guide#license

    Thanks,
    Martin

I got exceited about this and purchased the Pro version but now I’m not sure if it can do what I need. Anyway – I was hoping to use hyperlinks to popup the video in a lightbox. Is that possible with the Pro version?

To clarify, rather than click on a picture, I’d like to be able to click on a link.

    Hi Randy,

We’ll get back to you Monday with some suggestions on how to make this work. WE definitely do have playlist functionality. Here’s a long topic about playlists to get you started.

We’ll definitely provide more support to get this to work right.

    Cordial regards,

    Alec

Thanks so much for the SUPER fast response. Just so I don’t make things more complicated – I thought I would explain what I’m trying to do. I’d like to have 5 bullet points on a page with a “view” link next to each one. Each “view” link would show the appropriate video. So – no playlist but really just a simple popup video from a hyperlink.

    Thanks again.

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Randy,

we created a demo here: https://foliovision.com/html/video-lightbox.html

Notice the link in the first paragraph. Clicking the link opens a video in lightbox and all lightbox videos together form a gallery. Is that what you are after?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I also just recently purchased the Pro version and this text link that launches the video player in the lightbox is exactly what I need on a couple of pages.

I tried following the source code on the demo page, but it is not working. I can tell that I probably need to have the player hidden on the page, but not sure on the steps youe used to achieve this.

Can you advise how to create a working text link like on this demo page.
    Thanks

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Lance,

I’m leaving for a week of vacation, so I’ll be able to add this feature at the start of September.

If you know enough PHP you could put up a filter on the_content with high priority, where you would change the HTML of the lightbox image link to show up as an image, but it would be too tricky for a quick fix.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Is there ant documentation on how to do this?

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Daryl,

the documentation can be found here: https://foliovision.com/player/how-to-use-lightbox

Please let us know if you are having any issues.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin!

I think I may have mis-communicated. I am trying to link the lightbox to a text link. For example, I want a hyperlinked “Click Here” to open up the video lightbox. Is this possible?

    Thanks in advance!

    Martin 11 years ago

    Hello Daryl,

we promised we will add this feature at the start of this month, but we are only caught up with our work now, so we will work on adding it now.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Cary 9 years ago

I need this feature too. This was posted 2 years ago. I don’t see the documentation on how to do this. What should I use?

also, the shortcode button doesn’t show up in my pages, only posts.

    Martin 9 years ago

    Hello Cary,

I’ll answer you on your new thread here: https://foliovision.com/support/fv-feedburner-replacement/bug-reports/launch-lightbox-video-from-a-link

    Thanks,
    Martin
