Drag Volume to left to Mute, then Unmute does not work

[Solved]

  • tcnet 4 years, 8 months ago

    Hello,
I would like to file a bug report against this feature that you added:

    https://foliovision.com/2020/04/reliability-usability-player
    VOLUME BAR IMPROVEMENTS
<b>With the new update volume level can be dragged all the way to the left which will mute the sound and show mute icon instead of leaving the grey bar as it used to.

After clicking on the mute icon the volume will restore to its original level.<b>

We are unable to unmute after we do the above. Once this bug has occurred, you can not unmute it to hear the sound again, until you reload the page, which is not very user friendly.

I just discovered that the player keyboard controls work fine though. I can use the “m” key to mute and unmute. The volume keys also work, the up and downwards arrow. Those will unmute. So when the browser based click wouldn’t work, the keyboard ones do.

Then you can use the volume button against to drag to the left to unmute and reproduce the bug again.

So it doesn’t fix the bug, but at least gives a way to unmute without having to reload and stop the live stream.

Can you reproduce this? I get the issue on Firefox, Chrome, & Safari

    Thanks!

    Hello David,

thanks for reaching out to us!

Try this feature on the title video on our homepage, in order to determine whether you experience this issue on different sites as well.

Also, what type of pointing device do you use? (mouse, trackpad, etc.)

    Thanks,
    Mária

    Hi Maria,
Thanks for the response. No I do not see it on your home page, only on ours using the FV Player. I’m using a Mac Trackpad. Let me try a mouse. But I know that everyone who has tested our site sees it. On my Mac’s or Window, I get the same behavior. I can’t un-mute or turn up the volume after it has been muted, except with keyboard commands.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,

Try the same things as advised in the post about your other issue. (https://foliovision.com/support/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/bug-reports/stops-playing-when-going-to-other-browser-tab-in-chrome)

That is, try checking if you have other video plugins installed which might interfere with the correct function of FV Player.

Also, try switching to a different theme to see if the issue might be connected to the theme you are using.

Let us know how it went.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi Maria,
I will have to try this on my staging site.

    Thanks,
    David

I was able to track this down to the “Tooltipy” plugin that my designer had added. Not sure what the problem is with it.

    Hello David,

we have tested out the Tooltipy plugin and can confirm, that this issue is caused by this particular plugin. You can try asking the developers over at Tooltipy, whether their plugins contains any script that could interfere with the video playback.

    Thanks,
    Maria
