Any way to allow custom TinyMCE buttons to show up when using foliopress wysiwyg?

Foliovision › Forums › Foliopress WYSIWYG › Requests and Feedback › Any way to allow custom TinyMCE buttons to show up when using foliopress wysiwyg?

  • Matt Schlueter 13 years, 5 months ago

    Hello-

I have several sites that utilize themes and/or plugins that add buttons to the TinyMCE editor toolbar automatically. Obviously, these don’t show up when using Foliopress. I like FP Wysiwyg MUCH better than TinyMCE Advance, so I was wondering if there’s any possible way to intercept these added buttons and get them to show up on a foliopress wysiwyg toolbar as well?

    Hi Matt,

I’m sorry but it’s unlikely these buttons will work as TinyMCE is an entirely different codebase. We don’t like TinyMCE at all which is why we developed Foliopress WYSIWYG.

If you’d like us to look at a particular case, feel free to post a couple.

    Thanks.

I don’t like TinyMCE at all either, whch is why I use Foliopress. :) … In particular, one of the themes we use is Mondeo, found at themeforest.net, which adds buttons for the theme’s shortcodes to the toolbar. Would be nice to have those, but I can just memorize them as well. :)

There are also a couple plugins, but those aren’t as necessary.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

It’s pretty easy to create your own buttons. We have a YouTube button now which will allow you to insert shortcodes as well (you’d have to memorize them). You could also copy the YouTube button and create buttons of your own.

If you are using it enough to make a donation, we can create a couple of buttons for you ourselves.

Thanks for being part of Foliovision!

Cool… I’ll give that youtube button a look. I can probably figure out how to customize buttons from that if it’s as easy as you say. :)

Regarding donation: I have donated in the past, but was awhile ago, so probably due to give you another hit.

I’ve also been providing you free hosting for dev testing (which I’m not sure if you are still using or not) since April 2010.

    Hi Matt,

Sorry I didn’t realise you had already donated. Thank you. We have to find some way to mark those who have donated here in our forum. Now that you remind me, I remember. We appreciate your support.

Let us know how you get on with creating new buttons yourself or if you require our help. If you do create some useful buttons (with matching icons please), please pass them on so we can add them to core for you.

    Thanks.

PS. Martin are we still using this hosting for testing?

Darn, pretty much all the theme buttons open up a GUI to generate the shortcodes with all necessary elements inside. Guess those won’t be as easy to replicate. Oh well…

    Hi Matt,

We would be able to make buttons which interact with that GUI. For simpler short codes, we could also make a single button which offers multiple short codes.

    Keep us posted.

I’d be interested in hearing more about how to make buttons that interract with the GUI… also, so far, no luck in finding ability for custom buttons, but didn’t dive into the code too far.

    Hi Matt,

The underlying code is FCK editor. If you look for information about custom buttons for FCK editor you should be able to find some documentation out there. Let us know if you find something really good.

Also be sure to read all you can in our documentation: http://foliovision.com/seo-tools/wordpress/plugins/wysiwyg/faq

    Hello Matt,

we are not using your test environment anymore. We only used it when we were fixing the issues you reported.

Thank you for your contribution and cooperation.

    Martin
