One more thing, I found the source of the working file to be – https://playertest.longtailvideo.com/adaptive/bipbop/bipbop.m3u8 – when I put this into our test page it also casts successfully.
Hi,
We’ve tried and the mp4 casts fine, however other HLS examples we’ve tried (not just ours) play but do NOT cast, eg:
https://bitdash-a.akamaihd.net/content/sintel/hls/playlist.m3u8
The second of those is currently on this page for ref – https://streamthescene.net/_streams/test/
I tried with the examples on this page of yours – https://foliovision.com/player/demos/hls-stream – results were:
1st video – plays, does not cast
2nd video – doesn’t play at all
3rd – *plays AND casts successfully*
4th – plays, does not castCan you tell me what the difference between the 3rd video and the others is that might be causing it to cast successfully? There’s no comment on it in the page.
Thanks
This is on MacOS 10.15.5, Chrome 86.0.4240.80, WordPress plugins FV Player 7.4.34.727, FV Player Pro 7.4.33.727
Attempting to cast to chromecast from (eg) here – https://streamthescene.net/_streams/i-love-acid-17-10-20/ – gives that error in the browser console and it would just be good to know what it means as we can never get casting to work.
Thanks.
4 years ago in reply to: Player freezing on live HLS streamsSo we have just done some more testing on this. I have been streaming from OBS using our normal Azure infrastructure, with an HLS live endpoint.
By unplugging and re-plugging the ethernet cable on our server I’ve been dropping around 300 frames each time.
The Akamai HLS.js test player is fault tolerant. The audio kept playing, and the screen stuttered, however it resynchronised successfully.
https://players.akamai.com/players/hlsjs
We also tested using Castr.io and their own player, which behaved well too.
In my view all players should be fault-tolerant on the stream. Especially live streams as dropped frames are likely to happen for various reasons.
This is a basic requirement not a feature request. Could you imagine YouTube player crashing and needing a page refresh, or any other major player.
We’ve now been using FV Player for six weeks and we have three bugs open with you (and others not reported). This issue and the Chromecast issue make the player not fit for purpose in my view.
Who should I speak to about a refund? We paid for Pro to make sure we got a solid working player.
4 years ago in reply to: Cast not workingThe link was in the post above. It’s supposed to be black and white in case you’re wondering.

AirPlay seems to be fine from iOS devices, however Chromecast isn’t working from Android devices.
