Chromecast not working on WordPress.com

Hi! I am using the free version of FV on WordPress.com. I am using Chrome on Windows 11. I have enabled Chromecast in Settings. If I embed a video from say, Vimeo, your player displays the “Chromecast” button, and does, indeed, cast to my Chromecast device. But, if I embed a video from Muse.ai or Digital Ocean, the Chromecast button does NOT appear in your player. It DOES appear in muse’s player when I embed the same video. Here is the post in question:

The top video is hosted on muse.ai and embedded in their player. I can see and use the Chromecast button. The middle video is hosted on Vimeo.com and embedded in your player. The button appears and works. The bottom video is one hosted on Digital Ocean embedded in your player. No Chromecast button. I have cleared cache and cookies, reloaded the page, etc, etc, etc. Here is the link to the post in question. The password is opensesame

Also, is there a way (even if in FV Pro) to embed a LIVE stream from Digital Ocean? It doesn’t seem to work at all in free version.

    Hello Thomas,

unfortunately I see no images in your post. Could you please use our “Upload Images” button? It’s available if you log in. Or you can just send the link.

Please try if the Chromecast works for you here: https://foliovision.com/

    Thanks,
    Martin

That’s because there are no “images” in that post. Only videos. It’s password protected. I included the password in my post.

In the meantime, I have pretty much figured out the problem (well, not FV’s problem, but FV’s problem is not my problem.) Chromecasting is working. (So is Airplay.) What’s not working is the Chromecast button. The reason for that is, most players/developers, by default, set their player to “listen” for available Chrome devices. If none are detected, the player hides the Chromecast button, because that’s easier than dealing with customer confusion, error landing pages, etc. But no HTML 5 player CAN “listen” right now on my site. Apparently, the reason for THAT is, my site is hosted on WordPress.com, and apparently they set certain security features by default on new sites like mine. Those settings are apparently preventing HTML 5 “players” on my site from “listening” for nearby Chrome devices. Embedded “app” players like Muse or YouTube are not affected, because the app is hosted remotely.

Chromecast is not very secure, anyway, so, what I am going to do with my own custom player app is simply display the Chromecast button by default, and explain to users that if it doesn’t work, they need to turn on their castable device. But at least Apple and Google cast are working. Why they don’t work with FV is not my problem, any more. But you might want to look into it.

    Hello Thomas,

we are thinking about showing the Chromecast button at all time on compatible browsers. Then clicking it would show a message that no device is available or show the actual Chromecast receiver selection.

Please send a test page to your WordPress.com website so that we can check the issue with Chromecast being blocked. Or is it simply blocking external scripts using HTTP Content-Security-Policy header?

    Thanks,
    Martin
