URL parameters token, expires, expire, verify

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › URL parameters token, expires, expire, verify

  • Matthias 3 years, 4 months ago

    Hi!

we are using the FV Player Pro WordPress-Plugin and we experienced some strange requests in the past days. In the video lightbox container is a data-item which contains a “splash” URL that ends with the parameters “token”, “expires”, “expire” and “verify”. The URL looks like this:

    "splash":"\/page-slug\/?token=Pq3FbT6Ys2T7AVqIXjKzXg&expires=1641994824&expire=1641994824%3Fst%3Dzn-7SQRyK2kSCN5N-SpQIA&e=1641994824?verify=1641822024-n%2FQ9lHQdpBO74z6XY04wTqX0qnQt4EovAt7skKPYaLo%3D?token=0j-HMd5FI8X8usR2QBLh0Q&expire=1641994824?st=1Wj2r76tmNNh91AJjq2Ucw&e=1641994824"

In the past days we received over 100.000 requests per day for these URLs and that stressed our server a little bit.

    Our questions:
    1. What’s the purpose of these parameters?
    2. Why would someone request these URL that often?

    Best regards
    Matthias

    Hello Matthias,

it’s a strange issue, but I guess it could occur under some strange occurrences. It seems that your splash image URL is recognized as being loaded from one of the CDNs and then the URL token is added to it. But somehow it’s not using the CDN domain properly and instead just links to your website with the URL token added to the URL.

Please let us know what actual splash image URL do you use for the player.

Please provide a link to a page where I can see the issue.

Please let us know what you actually have configured in Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

we don’t use a CDN. The video is served locally. All fields in Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting are empty.

    The page is: (redacted)
The video starts when clicking the blue button “Video zum Thema”.
And the splash image URL: (redacted)

    Best regards
    Matthias

    Hello Matthias,

please post that video to a new page and also post it without use of the lightbox. I haven’t found any problematic code where it could start adding these arguments to a random URL, specially if you are not using any of Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting.

I also do not see why it does change the splash URL which you posted to just /externer-datenschutzbeauftragter/

What happens if you leave the splash field empty?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

here is a regular page containing the same the video without the lightbox:
    (redacted)

And this is a test page without lightbox and splash:
    (redacted)
Please send me a short note if you tested it. I need to remove the page quickly so it doesn’t get indexed (though it’s on “noindex”, but you never know).

    Best regards
    Matthias

    Hello Matthias,

thank you, you can remove these pages now. I’m trying to create a bugfix for the issue, although it’s still a mystery.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Matthias,

please deactivate and delete the FV Player Pro plugin you are using. Then hit “Install Pro extension” at the top of the wp-admin -> Settings -> FV Player screen. That will reinstall the plugin and will give you the latest version and the issue should be fixed.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

would you please deleted this thread? I don’t want our URLs to be publicly visible in your support forum.

Again: thank you very much for your help.

    Best regards
    Matthias

    Hello Matthias,

we redacted all of the URLs. We’d rather not delete the thread itself, as it could be helpful to someone else in the future.

Making the web work for you,
    Maria
