Encrypted HLS Playlist Trouble

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Encrypted HLS Playlist Trouble

  • Blayne 6 years, 11 months ago

Just starting to work with playlists using HLS transcoded videos. In the playlist example here, the first video is playing but not the second… I see that an error is being generating in dev console but I’m not sure what it means.

    Thanks

    Hello Blayne,

unfortunately the HLS encryption doesn’t work in playlists yet. We have worked hard on making it possible – we had to do a complete rewrite of how the video information is stored – and we have the first alpha version ready.

If you need these encrypted HLS playlists fast, we could package it up and let you use it.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Thanks Martin. Yes, trying to roll out a new course with hls playlists as well as migrate my old courses. Would really appreciate that.

    Hello Blayne,

we are discussing the options in our team. If we put you on the new FV Player alpha version (internal testing) too early, we might end up with having to maintain it on your site if we make a bigger change to it reaches the beta (public testing).

Before we settle on that can you just post these videos one after another rather than using playing?

    Thanks,
    Martin

Good point Martin. My site has so many videos that playlist functionality helps to keep things organized well. For example, on my tune learning library, I have 150 tune based masterclasses that each have about 6 videos each. I attached a screenshot of my player currently.

I’m having more and more students complain about the current way that I deliver video as it doesn’t perform as well as YouTube, etc… This is why I’ve been pushing to get current with HLS.

I’m currently developing a guitar course that is in “beta” for new students and all my new content is being delivered in HLS. I suppose I could live with individual videos for now with that but I really need to be able to put them in playlists for course organization purposes.

But “haste makes waste” often times. How long until the HLS playlist functionality reaches beta?

    Hello Blayne,

we need to work on the database driven FV Player at least 1 more week before we could give it to you for beta testing. In particular we need to make it possible to name the playlist and improve the playlist cloning functionality. We also need an import/export feature, since it won’t be possible to paste a shortcode to get help in our support forums anymore.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,

Sounds good. I can manage my current videos I’m producing as singletons and wait to start converting my back catalog once we have a good beta. Since playlist functionality is something my site relies quite heavily on, I’m happy to help with as much testing on my end as you can throw at me :) I’ve also had quite a bit of experience with both our own playlist solution (not HLS) and S3Bubble (HLS). I was planning on going with S3Bubble but they are not actively supporting their product – something I can’t risk in my line of work :)

Hey Martin. Just checking on status of HLS Playlist Beta. Thanks!

    Hello Blayne,

we are doing some final testing now, hopefully I will be able to hand it off to you today.

    Thanks,

    Hello Blayne,

FV Player 7.3.0.727 is out! That means you no longer need to use your special version as we have put the database model into the public FV Player version.

Please let us know if you notice any issues. In the worst case the older version with the database support in it is still available: https://foliovision.com/fv-wordpress-flowplayer-db.zip

You will have to enable Settings -> FV Player -> Mobile Settings -> “Alternative iOS fullscreen mode” to make sure fullscreen keeps working properly for you on iOS.

    Thanks,
    Martin
