Stream Loader Speed-Up not working after VPS migration

[Solved]

  • Robert S. 3 years ago

I just migrated to a new VPS and along the way I ran into the following error.

    [hls @ 0x5585a532af80] Skip (‘#EXT-X-SESSION-DATA:DATA-ID=”net.live-video.customer.id”,VALUE=”<INTEGERS>”‘)

    [hls @ 0x5585a532af80] Skip (‘#EXT-X-SESSION-DATA:DATA-ID=”net.live-video.content.id”,VALUE=”<VARCHAR>”‘)

Note: I replaced <integers> and <VARCHAR> as they were either integers or variable character strings and I wasn’t sure how they might relate to security.

This only occurs on videos hosted through cloudfront. CORS is enabled and appears to be working. Plugin is up to date and I’ve also tried the beta.

    As an update.
What I mentioned above was not actually an error (sorry I was tired and apparently hunting down a non-error) but in developer tools I noticed that stream-loader.php was forbidden.

What solved my issues was in FV Player > Settings > Stream Loader (at the bottom) uncheck speed-up (beta).

Obviously a beta feature but something in my migration/update broke things.

    Hello Robert,

are you using any caching or web application firewall?

Or does your new web host block direct access to PHP scripts in wp-content folder? That’s how the FV Player Pro’s Stream Loader Speed-Up option works – it avoids loading large part of WordPress to make it faster.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Good morning Martin,

Sorry for just getting back to you, it’s been a long few weeks.

I actually managed to get it work, as mentioned in my previous post, but ran into this again and it brings up a question actually.

I use Amazon Interactive video services for live streaming events. This works fine, no problems.

While live streaming our event, Amazon S3 serves multiple copies of our stream depending on device and internet connection. So we’ll see 1080, 720, etc.

IVS also records all of these different formats as it transcodes everything. So I end up with multiple copies of my event in hls recorded files. So in my S3 bucket, I’ll have a folder for each 1080, 720, 480, 360, etc. Each with it’s own playlist.m3u8.

As part of that I get a master m3u8 with all of these different version available. So, thinking that cloudfront can serve multiple versions(again depending on device and internet connection of the client) I’ve been feeding the master m3u8 into FV player. This works great under S3 but results in an hls js error when I do this with a cloudfront distribution.

So I’m curious if I misunderstand how this works when serving different resolutions to clients over cloudfront.

So far, what I’ve done now is just give FV player the 1080 url and it works fine.

Disregard, I just tried this again and all seems to be working as expected. I’m really starting to think it’s me.

I usually need to do this late at night after an event ends, so possibly I’m making mistakes I don’t realize.

    Hello Robert,

based on our experience AWS can do a lot of things but it’s also very complex.

We are currently using Viloud for live streaming. It won’t let us create encrypted streams, but it’s far easier to use.

    Thanks,
    Martin
