DRM text random position and size option

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Requests and Feedback › DRM text random position and size option

  • Dimitrii 3 years, 2 months ago

    Hi.

I would like to propose a change in DRM text positioning and timing. I see it moving only clockwise from corner to corner, but if a video has those spaces empty or irrelevant content, DRM text can be easily blurred. I think, making DRM text to appear randomly in terms of timing and positioning inside the video player would make videos a lot more secure against screen recording.
    What do you think?

    Regards, Dimitri

    Hello Dimitrii,

    thank you for the suggestion.

Based on similar requests, we are currently working on adding a new timing setting. The option will be “0 to 10 seconds random”. Making it impossible to remove it in an automated way.

As for making the positioning random, could you provide us with a more specific example for a situation where the DRM text showing up in a corner would not be enough? The solution is implemented in a way to not disturb the viewing experience too much, but also make the video useless if cropped.

I see how the predictability of the simple clockwise motion is quite troublesome. I will make sure to discuss it with Martin.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi Maria,

    thank you for your reply.
Timing is not my main concern. Position randomization is a much more powerful tool. Generally speaking, if a video is not a high quality piece of art, but rather a technical or informational one, then randomized DRM would only help to prevent pirates from recording it. We create learning videos, where the whole action takes place mainly in the center. I can easily blur some irrelevant parts of our videos, without impairing the whole information flow.
I would suggest it as an switchable option along with a timer randomization.

    Hello Dimitri,

    we will fix this.

    Hello Dmitri,

I prepared a fix for the DRM text placement for the next FV Player Pro Beta release.

Please deactivate and delete the FV Player Pro plugin you are using, then hit “Install Pro extension” at the top of the wp-admin -> Settings -> FV Player screen.

Then switch to the Beta release using the steps from here if you are not already using it: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta

That will reinstall the plugin and will give you the latest version with the fix.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin.

Thank you for fixing this. I have tested the new Beta. I see a randomized algorithm, but it is still using corners only. As I stated before, I can easily blur those corners a little, where no significant information appears.
I even found a possibility to minimize or even completely remove DRM text footprint from videos without even using blurring after using a screen recorder software.
I will contact you directly via email and send you a sample.
    Regards, Dimitri
