add hidden splash image on the page

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Requests and Feedback › add hidden splash image on the page

  • Edward 3 years, 7 months ago

    Hello,

could you add an additional optional checkbox to video settings that add hidden (invisible) splash image to the page when this option is used?
It has sense when the page is shared among social networks and has to have at least one image on the page. Now I have to artificially add a splash image to the page when it has no other images, but in general, such visual duplication looks redundant and ugly.

    Thanks,
    Edward

    Hello Edward,

do I understand correctly that are you adding the image directly to the page content?

Could using WP’s own featured image option help you achieve what you are asking for? The way it works is, that it gives the post or the page a splash image that is visible when shared on social media, and if your theme uses it, then also as a splash for the post/page, but it is not visible in the content of the post itself.

    Let me know.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Maria,

yes, I add the image directly to the page content only for the purpose of page sharing.

How WP featured image works is theme-dependant. My theme also shows it as a header of the post. Anyway it leads to double the same visual content in the post when user opens the page.

    Thanks,
    Edward

    Hello Edward,

It would probably be best to look into a custom CSS fix to hide it in your theme.

I don’t think we would want to add this feature to our plugin, as it is an isolated request rather than something generally sought after.

That being said, I will ask my team if we are willing to do it as a custom development or to provide paid help with customizing your theme.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Edward,

are you using any SEO plugin? The featured image should be available in the Open Graph header meta tags even if it’s not part of the post content. It certainly works that way when using FV Simpler SEO.

Also, the splash image is part of the page HTML code, so I wonder why won’t the social networks find the image. Please let us know which social network you are using.

    Thanks,
    Martin
