Multiple Audio tracks with HLS – pre define audio track via shortcode

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Multiple Audio tracks with HLS – pre define audio track via shortcode

  • Michael 1 year, 9 months ago

    Hello great people of foliovison!
I am using your PRO version and using AWS mediaconvert to produce those multi audio track renditions (as per your guide here: https://foliovision.com/player/audio/multiple-audio-tracks-player#multiple-audio-aws )
It all works fine, but I would need to find a way how to pre-define the audio track that is going to be applied in the front end (out of the pool of available languages in the AUD selector). And ideally also hide the AUD selector.

We want to use the same video/multi audio package on different language versions of our website. For each language version of the website, we would need to pre-set the according audio track, and make all other choices un-available. (hide AUD selector?)

Would there be a way to add something to the shortcode to make the audio track pre-selection work? Or any other way to accomplish this?
    Thank you!

    Hello Michael,

Please let us know if you use the URL tokens when serving these HLS streams.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hello Martin, Yes, we are using the token system.

    Hi Michael,

Multiple versions of a site with multiple preferred (or even exclusive) audio tracks is probably the less frequent solution to this issue (multiple language tracks). Most sites will have different language versions within the same site with multiple audio tracks on each video.

How does your site handling the multilingual technology?

    Thanks, Alec

    Hi Alec,
    Thanks for getting back.
We are running a multiple language course site (LearnDash and WPML). Video content is protected by memberships and each language requires separate registration. We don’t want users of one language to have access to all other languages, but only to the one they are registered for.

I found another solution to our requirements:
We are using AWS media convert to create our HLS streams/manifests. I am rendering one video with 10 separate audio-only tracks. MediaConvert offers the option to create additional manifests. By doing so I can create a separate manifest for each language, and using that manifest as the video source for the language specific FV player shortcode.
In this way we save a lot of rendering costs, but also storage costs, because we only need one HLS video stream that can be presented to the user combined with whatever audio language track we added.
I attached some screenshots below, if you are interested.
Pretty cool feature (additional manifests). One could also edit the original manifest, but no need!
    Greetings Mike

    Hi Michael,

That’s brilliant. Exactly the right way to save storage costs and keep archives simple.

Thanks for sharing! We’ll work on implementing something similar with Coconut.co (encoding costs are lower).

Making the web work for you, Alec
