Live Stream Player Check & Multiple video playback configuration

[Solved]

• tcnet 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Hello,
On our website, we have disabled this configuration, so that only 1 player will show a video at a time.
Multiple video playback (beta):

We have a web page, that has 10 players on, all with a live feed sometimes available and sometimes isn’t.

When they click on Player 1, the Live Stream Player Check kicks in and tells us there is no live stream and that it’s checking again in 30 seconds. So that is great.

If they click Player 2, to see if it has started. The Live Stream Player Check kicks in as well, which is great and it counts down for 30 seconds.

But what you will notice is that both Player 1 and Player 2 is counting now. When you clicked on Player 2, it didn’t “stop” the Player 1. If there had been an actual Live source playing, when you click on Player 2, Player 1 stops.

Now where this becomes a problem, is if Player 2’s Live Feed starts, Player 1 is still counting down, and when you get to the 30 seconds, Player 1, temporarily cut’s Player 2’s play, and Player 2 takes over again and 30 seconds later we get the same thing, the Player one attempting to connect every 30 seconds, cuts the currently streaming player.

The “Live Stream Player Check” feature that was added, should follow this configurations selections as well:
Multiple video playback (beta):

When you have that disabled, when another player is pressed, the countdown to check the live stream should stop on the other player.

Is there a way to get the Multiple video playback (beta): to enforce this? Any steps that I missed?

Thanks!

Hello David,

here’s what we tried – first we clicked to play a failing live stream. That would show the 30 second countdown. Then we played a second player with a working live stream which would work just fine.

But once the 30 seconds countdown of first player has reached its end and it tried to connect again it would mute the live stream playing in the second player.

Is that the issue you were running into?

We fixed the issue and it would be great if you could help us with testing by reinstalling FV Player from this link: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/492-multiple-live-stream.zip To do that you will have to first deactivate and delete the current FV Player plugin you are using. WordPress will warn you that you might loose settings and data, but it’s not the case with our plugin, no settings now videos will be lost. Or you can just replace the plugin files via FTP.

Thanks,
Martin

Thank you Martin! Yes that is the issue. I am trying it this evening and will report back the results. Thanks!

Hi Martin,
I created a staging site, since we’re live now. Deleted the FV Player plugin and added the new one you provided, but the 2 live feeds keep counting. We have FV Player configured to play only 1 video at a time, so anything that is going live or a vod, this works. But for the Check for Live feed that you added, it’s still allowing 2 player to play at once.

I’ve uploaded a screen shot showing both of them Counting.

Thanks!

Hello tcnet,

I see that if a stream doesn’t play and it starts to count-down and they you watch some other video it might suddenly get interrupted by that first stream as it becomes available.

We have improved it to only allow stop the live stream count-down when a video starts playing: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/492-multiple-live-stream.zip

Thanks,
Martin
