Facing issues while setting up Cloud Front DNS settings with pro FV Player

[Solved]

    Hi Helpdesk,

Please note that I have followed the steps but stuck at step 9 onwards in your help guide provided at the following link.
    https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/serving-private-cloudfront

I have set up the DNS CNAME as what was instructed. I set up the CNAME with my hostgator Domain provider and was expecting AWS to confirm the pending validation. But for the last three days was not successful with the same.

My CNAME Setting is video-cdn.eturnti.com with value
_ee38d64f7XXYYZZ as shown in the screenshot.

Please find the screen shots for the issue attached.
Request you to suggest what the exact sequence of steps should be.

Hostgator confirmed that they take 2-3 days max to set the DNS CNAME changes. But no success.

    Thanks,
    Kiran

    Hello Kiran,

please double check you have set the DNS record properly. Are you sure the value is set to _ee38d64f7XXYYZZ.acm-validations.aws and not _ee38d64f7XXYYZZ.acm-validations.aws.video-cdn.eturnti.com? The trailing dot in that value matters a lot.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Please find the following screen shot of my DNS editor settings. The entry set is correct.

The screen shot can be viewed at the following location.

    https://prnt.sc/l1876j

Please send the exact sequence of steps as AWS is always timing out and not able to validate the DNS entries.

I guess I am missing something here.

    Thanks,
    Kiran

    Hello Kiran,

you made a mistake there – the record for your video CDN domain needs to point to that Cloudfront domain. For example video-cdn-public.foliovision.com points to d1urvzk1784x0y.cloudfront.net.

The validation works differently, the record name to create is something like (in our case) _5760XYZXYZXYZXYZ.video-cdn-public and then that points to _d37XYZXYZXYZXYZ.acm-validations.aws.

So it seems you got the correct value present but you didn’t get the name right.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

So what you are saying is that I need my DNS editor to have the following values instead of the above and AWS will figure out the rest.

    Name Record
    video-cdn.eturnti.com. dh1y90XXYYZZ.cloudfront.net

My screenshot shows the configuration that has been set.

    https://prnt.sc/l19o7q

Hope this is the correct setting in the DNS records. Please confirm .

    Thanks,
    Kiran

    Hello Kiran,

video-cdn.eturnti.com is the record which points to your CDN.

You also need another record like something.video-cdn.eturnti.com which will point to something.acm-validations.aws. Without that your domain won’t validate for SSL.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Kiran,

you need to double check the Name for validation as it can be seen on screenshot “Domain validation in ACM” in our guide: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/serving-private-cloudfront

If you can’t get to that anymore, just delete the certificate and request it again.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for your help on the issue.

As suggested , I have re initiated a request certificate with the following entries in my DNS now again.

This activity typically takes 12-48 hours from the domain hosting provider it appears.

Attaching the screen shot for your validation. The second record is the correct way of entering it appears. Please confirm is this is correct in which case i shall delete the other one.

    https://prnt.sc/

    Thanks,
    Kiran

    Hello Kiran,

you posted a bad link to your screenshot unfortunately. But I guess it’s validated by now. It only took a minute for me – using DNSMadeEasy for our site CDN zone.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Oops have put the correct screen shot here.

Please validate if this screen shot settings are correct

    https://prnt.sc/l1prte

which one of these is the correct settings.

    Thanks,
    Kiran

    Hello Kiran,

the first one is wrong. The second one is better, but not entirely correct. You need to fix the “Record” value to not end with “eturni.com”. That is your domain name and it’s appended automatically as you didn’t include the trailing dot in record value.

    Thanks,
    Martin
