Adding custom language code in subtitles

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Adding custom language code in subtitles

  • Steve 2 years, 11 months ago

    Hello,

I am trying to add a custom language code to the subtitles.

Right now, I can only choose given language codes from the dropdown option.
Is there any way I can add a custom language code or even change the current language codes to my own?

For example, I want users to be able to choose subtitles from “Easy”, “Normal”, or “Hard” rather than different languages.

    Thank you.

    Hello Steve,

While it cannot be done via settings, there is a way to give custom names to subtitles via the manual shortcode parameters.

The thing is, while the naming works, it shows up as additional information to undefined language files: “Default (easy”) , Default (normal)”. Instead of just naming the language as it usually does. Would this be an viable option for you?

If so, then you can do so by adding a suffix to the subtitles parameter. Like this:
    subtitles_easy=”https://your-website.com/uploads/subtitles.vtt

To add more, subtitle files, just change the name and link:
    subtitles_normal=”https://your-website.com/uploads/subtitles2.vtt

You can learn more about manual shortcodes here: https://foliovision.com/player/developers/shortcode-parameters#subtitles

However, the player still expects a language code to be there, thus the “Default (name)”. As for adding the custom name as the actual name, no, there is no option to do that at the moment. We would have to discuss it. Does this solution fit your needs?

    Hello, Maria.
    Thank you for your reply.
As of now, default(+my choice of name) would be my best option, considering my options are limited.

However, I have tried the above way but the language code comes out as “Default (kr)” even if I add subtitles_easy=”URL”

I think it is showing kr since my wordpress language is set to Korean.

Just to make sure I haven’t done anything wrong on my part, this is what I have tried.

    I’ve tried to add
subtitles_easy=”https://yourwebsite.com/uploads/subtitles.vtt” directly into the shortcode like:
    [fvplayer id="1" subtitles_easy=”https://your-website.com/uploads/subtitles.vtt"]
But when I do this, then I do not see any subtitles at all. I do not see the ‘cc’ button.

So, I added subtitles_easy=”https://yourwebsite.com/uploads/subtitles.vtt” in the FV Player subtitle option tab, but then the player shows Default (kr) not the name of my choice. Plus, when I add two or more subtitles, I can only see one “Default (kr)”

I hope there is a way.

    Thank you again.

    Hello Steve,

Here’s a working manual FV Player shortcode that should result in the subtitles being calle “Default (easy)” :

    [fvplayer src="https://vimeo.com/30270430" subtitles_easy="https://foliovision.com/images/2016/04/test-subtitles.vtt" splash="https://i.vimeocdn.com/video/203238365-e5f29a10b1b412bb3fe5a65a2906496c113188728968af0b3bc200c117d2b16d-d_1920x1080?r=pad" caption="Nízke Tatry"]

Try it on your website and let me know, if it works for you or if it still shows kr. When you input via the settings, it usually tries to assume a default language code.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello, Maria.

Thank you again for your reply.

Well, the video link you gave me didn’t work, but when I changed the video to a youtube video link, it worked!
The videos will be from youtube anyway, so it is totally fine.

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Radu,

You should be able to upload your own subtitles to your Vimeo video. This is FV Player Pro only.

I’m not sure if you are a Pro user or not.

    Thanks, Alec
