Stream loader – Speed-up (beta) breaks HLS – Only for not logged in WP users

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Bug Reports › Stream loader – Speed-up (beta) breaks HLS – Only for not logged in WP users

  • Michael 5 months ago

HLS videos via Cloudfront, with the Speed up option checked in FV Player settings, play back super speedy for logged in users.

But for not logged in users, the error message in player says:
    hlsjs-lite: Network error

The site is behind the Cloudflare WAF (via KINSTA), the option is ticked in FV player settings.
We recently added Rocket WP, any settings related to this error we might need to take care of in Rocket WP?

    Thank you.
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

I tried to access the Stream Loader script on shedrub dev site and I got the PHP error.

Please let us know if you can switch to FV Player 8 on that website. You can start by getting FV Player 8 here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/fv-player/ Or just look it up on wp-admin -> Plugins -> Add New,

On the Dharma website I get a Sucuri warning, just try to open (redacted)

To get the benefit of faster video loading you need to allow direct access to that script.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Please note that on the present production site https://dharmasun.org (will be turned off in a few days) we don’t use Fv player.

On the present development site we use it and there we have the issue:

    https://dharmasun.shedrubdev.site (on the dharmasun subdomain)

That site has a front end password, I can forward elsewhere, if needed.

I was able to switch to FV Player Version 8.0.13 for the development site.
BUT the settings page stopped working….(see screenshot)>

First, I converted the user data base, as I was prompted. and received a message, which I don’t understand (see screenshot):
“The usermeta will be purged of the FV Player video position in 4 weeks.”

Second I wanted to see the FV player settings page, but it shows an empty page…..

In the front end some layout of the player has changed, (transcript box padding to payer….) I wanted to check the settings, but couldn’t….

    fv-player-8-transcript-opened-padding
    FV-player-8-transcript-opened-padding
    fv-player-8-transcript-closed-padding
    FV-player-8-transcript-closed-padding
    fv-player-8-settings-page
    FV-player-8-settings-page
    fv-player-8-database-update
    FV-player-8-database-update

    Update:
After updating also the PRO player, the settings page shows now.!

But the logged out user still gets the hlsjs-lite: Network error.

    Hello Mike,

In FV Player 8 the user playback position in each video is no longer stored in wp_usermeta table, but in a new database table. It’s more efficient and easier to manage that way. However it keeps the old data in place for 4 weeks in case there is any issue.

I’m not sure what could cause these alignment issues. Are you customizing FV Player appearance with CSS?

I checked Stream Loader PHP script on https://dharmasun.shedrubdev.site/wp-content/plugins/fv-player-pro/stream-loader.php and it does not seem to show any error.

Could you please check in the PHP error logs? If you are not sure about how to check the PHP error log, the server technical support should be able to give you a hand.

You can also disable the “Speed-up” setting for now. It makes the videos faster to load as it lets us skip all the other plugins and most of the core WordPress code when loading these videos with Stream Loader.

If you would like to have this issue solved with priority we are happy to have a look. Just book our Pro support: https://foliovision.com/pro-support

    Thanks,

Hi Martin, Thanks for all the tips.

I checked the server logs, and nothing there about Fv player…

BUT, I found the culprit, which is a password protect plug in (for the front end, since our site is in development, and we don’t want anyone to accidentally access it).
After deactivating it, the error message is gone., even with the speed-up option checked!

Regarding the alignemtn issues, they only happen, when Transcript is added to avideo. I commented-out all Custom CSS in the FV player settings, but alignement issue is still there, will keep on checking.

I found some other issue gthugh, since the update to version 8. I will post in another thread (Audio-only player looses splash image, after clicking PLAY,….)

    Hello Mike,

Thank you for the follow up. If the website is password protected then of course these videos will fail to load. It did not occur to me, but I’m glad you figured that out.

I will look into the audio player issue.

    Thanks,
    Martin
