    Hi team,

    I’m getting a flood of emails from my users saying that my YouTube videos don’t play. Upon further investigation, this appears to be true for mobile devices attempting to play YouTube videos. My self hosted videos play fine.

    I’ve disabled my caching plugin, but it made no difference. I’ve switched the FV Player to Beta and that made no difference either. I can repllicate this on desktop using the Chrome mobile simulations.

    I’m using the latest FV Player.

    Please help urgently. This is costing me money.

    Hello Bruce,

    it appears your are stripping the query string versions from the JavaScript links. That means if there was a significany update in the core the users’ browsers won’t know about the change unless they clear their cache and reload.

    There was a bug occuring when using FV Player 7.4.0.727 together with FV Player Pro 7.3.19.727 regarding YouTube videos on mobile. But since you are removing these query string versions you might not notice the fix whih we put in FV Player Pro 7.4.0.727 – it appears you updated to it already. But because of missing query string versions most people might be still getting the script from the old FV Player Pro version.

    I was able to play the video on https://www.loveatfirstfight.com/fv-test/ without issues – probably because I haven’t visited your website before, so my browser is not hanging on to the old cached FV Player Pro script.

    Hi Martin. Thanks for replying.

    QUESTION 1:
    Where would I look to see whether or not I’m stripping the query string versions from the JavaScript links? In my Jupiter Theme control panel, query string removal has always been turned off.

    I’m using the Paid version of WP-Rocket and can’t find anything there.

    I’m also using WPX Hosting and their built in CDN. Perhaps they are stripping the query string versions from the JavaScript links?

    QUESTION 2:
    Also, are you saying that I should not be using the free player in conjunction with the Pro player? Should I delete the free player?

    Hello Bruce,

    1) Please forward that question to your web hosting support. You can also try to enable the “Remove query string from static resources” setting in WP Rocket. They actually do it properly and keep the version number in the URL. That way the version number wouldn’t be stripped by some further “optimization”. I put that into quotes as you won’t gain any speed by removing the query string versions.

    2) FV Player gives you the video player and FV Player Pro adds advanced features to it, you need to use both.

    UPDATE: I just spoke with my Hosting (WPX Hosting) provider and they confirm that their CDN does in fact strip the variables.

    I can’t use another CDN, so what’s the best way forward? Uninstall the free FV Player?

    I cleared the WPX Hosting CDN cache and it made no difference.

    Thanks Martin. It seems to be working after I cleared the CDN Cache. I’ve applied the WP-Rocket fix you mentioned and I’ll keep monitoring it.

    Hi Bruce and Martin,

    I hope that everything is doing well.

    We have noticed the case and saw that there might be an issue with the caching of query strings on static resources. Currently we cache all kind of static resources including their query strings/parameters, cachable artifacts and do not trim or remove anything from the original resource.

    It is possible that we might have accidentally mislead you about this on chat.

    If you might experience any such issues as in the current case then we might be able to help you out, debug it for you or work together to find a solution.

    Hi Martin,

    I’m sorry to bother you again about this issue, but it has resurfaced.

    My YouTube videos do not play on mobile. If you view this link on mobile, you’ll see: https://www.loveatfirstfight.com/fv-test/

    My WP-ROCKET is still set to “Remove Query Strings from Static Resources”.

    I’ve cleared my WPX hosting cache several times.

    I’m using FVPLAYER Version 7.4.14.727 and FVPLAYER PRO Version 7.4.15.727.

    Please could you take a look and see what’s going on?

    Hello Bruce,

    the issue was fixed in FV Player Pro 7.4.16.727.

    Since you are removing the query string versions, you might not get the updates file because of browser or CDN cache. Although WP Rocket does that properly – it makes the version number part of the file URL. So it should work fine.

    Hi Martin. How to I get the latest version. I see that it was released on 19 March 2020. My support expired on 21 March 2020, so I’m in luck! Can’t find a download link anywhere. Please advise. Thanks. Bruce

    you can’t download it as the license has expired. I see it would be better to offer the last version available when the license expired.

    I extended your license until tomorrow, so you can also renew it at a reduced price too.
