Editor bugs:’Format’ only shows Centered Image Option- Help!

Foliovision › Forums › Foliopress WYSIWYG › Troubleshooting › Editor bugs:’Format’ only shows Centered Image Option- Help!

  • Dennis 13 years, 9 months ago

The top of the editor has bugs and unsure how to proceed in finalizing the page layout.

I’ve read the user’s guide I found to see what is supposed to be there.

    a) Under Format the only option showing is “center image” No other choices for paragraph, headers, etc. show up. I can’t edit anything without it.

    b) Not sure where to left, center or right justify text or image? My hunch is this should show up under Format.

    c) Also tried to insert image. I uploaded the image. I see it under the separate window in SEO Images but not clear how you actually get it to insert the image on the page.

Finally found a tool that gets an imbedded video player working.
It looks like a real great tool and would love to get it working. Please advise asap.

p.s. The edit window is small. I found the large screen editing panel. Much easier to work with! However, there is no access to the tool bar. Also how do you save and go back to the normal edit window?

Using Graphene theme, Firefox. I am a WordPress newbie user not a developer – plain speak please. I look forward to your response asap.

    Thank you,

    Dennis

    Hello Dennis,

    a) Please try to re-save the options. Perhaps that will help. We are currently working on a new version of plugin which uses a new code for this part.

    b) You are right, the options for image alignment are all there.

    c) You need to do a right mouse click on the image to insert it. On Mac, you need to do Ctrl + Left click. All of this is in the our Foliopress WYSIWYG user guide.

    d) You can change the editor size in Settings -> Writing. The issue with full screen is another bug which is addressed in our new version which will be out in few weeks. You can disable the admin bar in your user profile to have a quick workaround.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Good morning, Martin, Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I’m against a tight launch deadline and am grateful for your expertise.

    a) I don’t know what you mean “re-save the option”. Again the issue is the drop-down under “Format”. I’m only given “centered image” as the only option. Unable to edit further without it.

b and c) Yes, gGot the image insert working, thank you! However, left justified images with bullet text bleed over the edges. Experimented with horizontal setting. Set it as high as 40 (are these pixels for values?). Looks great on the edit screen but when I publish it somehow overrides and continues to bleed over on the right edge of the image. See http://www.membership-smart.com home page for current editing example issue.

Also the images appear with a grey line border. I tested the original image I uploaded into a Word doc and confirmed they do not have borders. The border setting is blank on your image insert and editor page.

There must be some master setting somewhere that needs to reset or change for these above issues?

d)Editor size setting – I reviewed basic and advanced settings but was not confident which one of these changes the vertical heighth of the editor space to work with.
(I saw the dropdown customization choices – how do I get these to appear in my editor?)

    thanks!

    Hi Martin,
Oh Happy Day! I found a setting called Full Menu and saved it. Voila, the “Format” error was fixed!

I also was delighted to see that valuable little editing wonder “Undo” appear. It’s lookin’ like a real editor’s tool box now! Love it!

So I just need help right now with the two image questions and the size of the editor panel.

    Appreciate it,

    Dennis

    Hello Dennis,

    1. Regarding you questions about image formatting – you need to fix this in your template CSS file. Both the issue with bullets and the issue with image border. That’s your master setting which you are looking for. It requires some HTML and CSS knowledge, but that’s the right way of fixing issues like this, no need to adjust the styling in the editor.

    2. Editor size setting is described on this WordPress.org page, it’s the “Size of the post box”.

    3. Dropdown customization – you can read about this in our Foliopress WYSIWYG Installation Guide, Dropdown customization section.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
#2 I think I can try that, thanks..
#3 I’m unsure what that response is in regard to? I now see the dropdown of “Format” from the editing toolbar and am all set now. Let me know if it’s a missing piece for my other issue on the images.
#1) I think I understand what you are saying- adjust the master settings. When you say your “template CSS file.” Is that within Word press template or the WYSIWYG editor?
Is there a help link you can provide that would give me step by step guidance?

I’m afraid what you’ve highlighted in #1 is above my pay grade. I have learned a hard lesson with WordPress never to “guess” at “trying something”. My site was down for a couple days because of crossing the line from courage to stupidity.

If the #3 link above is the guidance for this I need to pay attention to the warning at the top:

“We don’t recommend you playing with this unless you have some bigger HTML/CSS experience.”

I’ve done HTML changes many times under a user friendly checklist guide approach. Not one based on an assumed base of knowledge and understanding.

    thanks!

    Hi Dennis,

    1. You should fix this in your template CSS file. Your bullets probably don’t have proper formating in it when there is a floated element next to them.

There are some nice articles about CSS on WordPress.org. Some good tutorials for bullets are also on w3school.com

    3. You asked about “dropdown customization choices”, so I pointed you o the right place where you can read about customizing it.

    Thanks,
    Martin
