Vimeo Play issue….

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Vimeo Play issue….

  • Gbrother 9 years, 11 months ago

    Hi
I’m using vimeo pro to play videos in my web.

At night in Korean time, they are too slow that I cant watch a single minute.
    My customers are getting angry.
They keep stop while playing. Especially if I move play section, it tries so hard to play for a long time but never start but saying html5: network error.

I thought this is vimeo server’s problem but they play well when I try them with vimeo code directly.

They have a problem only with flow player.
    Please check this out.

    Hello Gbrother,

thank you for the bug report, we are having a look.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Gbrother,

I’m not seeing issues when using a South Korean IP.

Could you please check if the issue occurs if you put the Vimeo Pro file URL into our player? Just grab the High Def URL from https://vimeo.com/{your video ID}/settings/file and put it up using [fvplayer src="..."]

    Thanks,
    Martin

I’ve tested as you told me. When I put code directily to hd file in vimeo pro same problem occurs.
There are same problem with playing videos neither to put vimeo code nor put file directly.

At night, video plays only for 2 minutes to play and it keeps pausing. When I play front section and change to foward section, I can never watch video. There are long buffering and it says html5: Network error at the last. (both of two ways)

Now its day time in Korea and above message keeps coming.

    Gbrother 10 years ago

Even I dont move play section but play video for 2-3 minutes, the html5:network error message comes.

    Hi Gbrother,

I’m a big fan of Korea (both cinema and food) and thank you for supporting FV Player.

Speed is very important to me, so we’ll figure out exactly what the issue is here and fix it. We could put a patch in now to allow you to switch between Vimeo player and FV Player with a single checkbox so your users can enjoy your site again right now.

    Would that help?

Making the web work for you, Alec

    Hello Gbrother,

could you please send us the exact URL where we can see the issue?

You also said: “There are same problem with playing videos neither to put vimeo code nor put file directly.”

So are you seeing the issue with just our player or also when using Vimeo iframe?

I had a quick look at Vimeo forums and noticed some playback issues are occurring in Brazil: https://vimeo.com/forums/help/topic:281259

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Gbrother,

thank you for the sample page link, we won’t publish it.

We are not noticing any issues (when I used our Korean VPN the internet speed is only around 10kB/s unfortunately so I can’t tell the speed difference there), does the issue still occur to you?

I’m noticing that the Vimeo’s player is not using mp4 format but MPEG-DASH (using Google Chrome and Firefox for the test, not every browser supports that). We could add support for that and see if that helps.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

The problem is still the same.

Not only me but also other people playing videos have the same problem.

Also not only at night but also at the day time.

While playing, the html5 networkerror message comes in few minutes.

Same thing occurs if I change play section.

    Martin 10 years ago

    Hello Gbrother,

does it happen with all the players on your test page? That means FV Player with its Vimeo integration. FV Player with Vimeo Pro video URL and Vimeo iframe embed code?

If it’s better with the Vimeo iframe code, then we can switch our plugin to use MPEG-DASH for Vimeo videos

You also said the problem is also visible when using the Vimeo Pro video URL, so you could be submitting that issue to Vimeo support.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Could you please enable a simple button in the Vimeo Advanced Preferences which allows our clients to switch back to Vimeo iframes on demand across their entire site? This way if there are issues with non-Vimeo players over a short period of time our pro users have a convenient fallback.

    Thanks.

    Hello Martin,

There is no problem playing if I use Vimeo embed code. Its not vimeo’s problem.

It happens only when I use fvpalyer.

I think Vimeo is recently using MPEG-DASH…

I gusee the problem will be solved if FVplayer also use MPEG-DASH in vimeo intergration. Is this possible?

For now, I can change vimeo code to fvcode at one single time but cant change fvcode to vimeo at one time. If its possile to change it right away, it would be good for emergency.

    Hello Gbrother,

we released FV Player Pro 0.6.20 which has the Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Vimeo Pro -> “Force iframe Embedding” option which lets you switch all the players to basic embed codes at once.

This is good in case of some failure in our player, however it mean your playlists or other features won’t work with the Vimeo videos.

We are checking how to use Vimeo MPEG-DASH videos.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thanks, Martin.

I’m looking forward to use Mpeg-dash

    Hi Gbrother,

The fallback solution (disabling FV Player for Vimeo only) is just an emergency fallback for cases where Vimeo suddenly changes its API. We’ll be bringing back full functionality ASAP (later this week).

    Thanks.

    Hello Gbrother,

could you please check if you are currently having issues with your videos embedded using FV Player?

Then please check if it works better for you here: http://foliovision.com/html/dash/test.html

The issue you reported was “html5: http error” after few minutes of video playback or when seeking in the video. It occurred even when using Vimeo Pro file URLs.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Gbrother 10 years ago

    Thanks.

I’ve tested and there is no problem. It works good as before.
    Did you do something?

    http://foliovision.com/html/dash/test.html

I went to this above link and this message came out.

    dash: Video file not found
    http://skyfiregce-a.akamaihd.net/exp=1458609637~acl=%2F*%2F140376341%2F*~hmac=53ca128b926fa4d02d7caefb170b8b8a02a74cf2ff6861f56b4ce5e7adb9a44e/2tierchgci/140376341/video/419523390/chop/segment-1.m4s

Vimeo has changed to mpeg-dash which means its not possible to download a video file in Chrome and Firefox by extention plugin. I hope you can support mpeg-dash as well!

    Martin 10 years ago

    Hello Gbrother,

we didn’t change anything, however we reported the issue here as we found we are able to reproduce it on our 2 hours long videos: https://vimeo.com/forums/help/topic:281360

If you could also write to that thread that you experienced these issues, that would be helpful. At this point it works for us in the 2 hour long videos without issues.

http://foliovision.com/html/dash/test.html demonstrates use of Vimeo MPEG-DASH, however the video link expires. I put in a fresh one into it now, so you can have a look. It might stop working again in an hour or so.

The issue with MPEG-DASH is that not every browser supports it. Some older browsers would still use the MP4 links. I think it’s only a matter of time until there are tools to download MPEG-DASH, but it also supports encryption.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Gbrother 10 years ago

    Hello.
I guess Vimeo has dropped mp4 way of playing. It still slow.

However mpeg dash way is fast. That’s why I can’t use FV player in these days.

Now Vimeo is possilble to change automatically to dash or mp4 way in browser support. Is it possible with FV player?

    Martin 10 years ago

    Hello Gbrother,

we already started working on this and it is possible to integrate Vimeo’s MPEG DASH with our player. We just need to finish some testing and tidy up the code.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin 10 years ago

    Hello Gbrother,

I was not able to reproduce the MP4 seeking issue this time. Last time I could see the issue, then I contacted Vimeo on their support forum, there was even somebody else with the same issue and the the issue disappeared.

But we better be prepared with the MPEG DASH support as this might still be happening to you.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Gbrother 10 years ago

    Wow!

I will be waiting for your upgrade.

    Thank you.

    Martin 9 years ago

    Hello Gbrother,

you can test our Vimeo MPEG-DASH integration here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/vimeo-channel-support

Just pick any video and when you enter the fullscreen mode you might be noticing that the picture will at first be a bit blurry but then it will get much sharper as it switches to the higher quality.

That means your shouldn’t be getting any quality switching buttons on these videos. If you do get these, then it’s because either the video doesn’t have MPEG-DASH version of it available or your browser doesn’t support it.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Gbrother,

FV Player Pro 0.7.42 released just now allows you to enable MPEG DASH for your Vimeo videos, just use Settings -> FV Player -> Hosting -> Vimeo (Pro) -> Enable MPEG-DASH (Beta).

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Gbrother,

We recently experienced similar problems with both MPEG-DASH and MP4 Vimeo embeds. It turned out that it was caused by issues with selecting the fastest server in their CDN network. We have fixed this problem and all should be working well now.

    Thanks,
    Eduard
