Videos Don’t Load On Mobile Devices

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Videos Don’t Load On Mobile Devices

  • TJ Nelson 11 years, 4 months ago

I have an online course that people pay for and get access to a bunch of content.

Someone told me the videos won’t load on her phone. I tried it myself on my iPhone 4S while connected to WiFi. Same exact problem as her – the video just sits there like it is loading and never loads.

I used handbrake to reduce the size of the videos, encoded them properly, and have the right video/mp4 tag in Amazon S3. The videos work fine on computers.

    Thanks,
    TJ

    All videos work fine

    Hello TJ,

could you please let us know what Handbrake settings did you used? What video resolution are you using?

Older iPhones have a problem with videos above 640x480px, as described in thread html5: Video file not found on iOS.

    Thanks,
    Martin

The videos look like they are loading but never quite load.

I shouldn’t have to resize all of my videos to 640x480px for a player to work on a mobile device. That would take hours and hours of work (I have hours of video that would need to be readjusted, resized, and reuploaded to the internet while people are simultaneously going through my course).

Is the only solution going to be having to do a bunch of work on already working videos to resize all of them, repost them, and then the people watching the videos on their computer would be forced to watch the videos in lower resolution?

    Hello TJ,

you are right. The solution is also in the above thread in this post. If you use that field for mobile video, you will be able to add in lower quality video for mobile users. It will still take you some time to do these mobile versions of your videos though. We are checking how we can put in a warning for users if the video is too big for their mobile.

    Thanks,
    Martin
