Player doesn’t work right in Thrive Apprentice

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Player doesn’t work right in Thrive Apprentice

  • Mike 4 years, 5 months ago

So I encountered a bit of weirdness. The player works fine on a regular page built with Thrive Architect. But if I embed the player in a Thrive Apprentice course lesson page that must be edited with Thrive Architect, the player acts all wonky in several ways:
    1) There is a large white space where the player should be
    2) There are multiple “play” and/or “pause” icons the entire width of the column randomly overlaid over the text content below the video down the entire page
    3) if you click one of the play icons, the video pops up and starts to play… but it is gigantic and runs off the right side of the column/page so you can only see a bit less than the left half of the video.

I also reached out to Thrive Themes to see if they knew from their end why Apprentice pages are treating the player differently.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

sorry about the late reply. Please enable Settings -> FV Player -> Integrations/Compatibility -> “Load FV Flowplayer JS everywhere”, it might fix the issue.

With FV Player we are very careful to only load the plugin resources when they are needed to not slow down your page load times. In case of some page builder our plugin doesn’t know it might need to load these files, which can then result in that bad appearance.

Ideally we would be able to trigger the load for any page builder, but since each page builder is different we have to target them one by one.

Does the issue occur when editing the page, or when viewing it?

Please forward out message to Thrive Themes, perhaps they will have a suggestion.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Yes! That did fix the problem. I did pass that along to Thrive so they could take a look, but I’ll also pose the same follow-up question to you too in case you have some insight on this…

Is there a way to put some custom html script that can call the JS as needed? I only need to have the FV player on certain pages, so it would be great if I could manually set the JS to be called when I place the player.

I’m already looking at some minor issues with site speed, so I’d love to find the elegant fix for this instead of brute force across the whole site. But it did fix the problem!

    Thanks!

    Hello Mike,

does the issue occur when editing the page, or when viewing it?

Is the player shortcode inserted in content which is not in page HTML, but loaded with Ajax? That’s what might be causing our JS loading routine to not run on your page. We have no way of telling if there is potentially going to be some Ajax call which will require our scripts.

    Thanks,
    Martin

I’m not sure I can answer that question. I have the shortcode embedded in a custom HTML element (block) that Thrive Architect uses, but I don’t know how Thrive implements their page builder elements. Would their elements/blocks be loaded by Ajax? I’ve sent a message to Thrive to ask.

And it was viewing the page, not editing it. During editing, all I see is the shortcode, no graphical elements.

The good news is I’ve tested my site with the global JS setting turned on and it seems to have no noticeable impact on my site speed other than Pingdom says I should reduce scripts being loaded. The time to load didn’t seem to change at all.
