New Player update has killed all our videos via XML

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › New Player update has killed all our videos via XML

  • alancontino 6 years, 4 months ago

The new player shortcode method used after we upgraded to the latest version has killed all our videos in XML feeds. This is a major issue as we rely on the feeds for our mobile apps.

All of the legacy player posts still work – the video link is recognized in the XML feed, yet all the new player posts that utilize the new shortcode method no longer show the video link.

Is there a way around this when using the new shortcode method?

    Hello Alan,

I guess you mean the XML sitemap and not the RSS feed. FV Player 7.3.4.727 released now should fix that for you.

    Thanks,
    Martin

NO – I mean the RSS feeds – we’re publishing category specific feeds from category posts.

We are on ver. 7.3.4.727 – it has no effect.

Please examine this feed – http://www.newradiomedia.com/at-home-with-the-mcallisters-past-episodes/feed/

You see that Episode 159 was using the new shortcode ” [fvplayer id="39"]” – the MP4 files is NOT listed w/ the post

However you see that Episode 158 – prior to the FVplayer format change – it DOES list the MP4 files as part of the post. This older format used the code as follows: “[fvplayer src="http://newradiomedia-recast.streamguys1.com/content/arts_and_entertainment/20181126095836-19-446-at-home-with-the-mcallisters.mp4" mobile="http://newradiomedia-recast.streamguys1.com/content/arts_and_entertainment/20181126095829-21-456-at-home-with-the-mcallisters-mobile.mp4" splash="http://newradiomedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/AHWM-20181126.png"] “”

Because the MP4 link is present in the post it is recognized by the database and included as “attached” video file for the post.

    Hello Alan,

I see, so you are relying on the enclosure tags in the feed. That’s something which WordPress puts in if it finds an MP4 file link in the post content. With FV Player database there is no MP4 file link in the shortcode, so it doesn’t find it anymore.

We can get this fixed, but I can’t promise it before the Christmas holidays, as there are some other fixes which we are working on already. And there is a safe workaround which you can use in the meantime:

    a) you can just downgrade back to FV Player 7.2.x
    b) or just type your shortcodes by hand (that would works if you are only using something like [fvplayer src="https://your-cnd.somewhere.com/file.mp4"] and not a lot of other features).

If you would like to accelerate this fix, we are happy to help, just order our Pro support: https://foliovision.com/pro-support

    Thanks,
    Martin
