Moved to a new domain. HLS videos still pointing to the old one.

[Solved]

    Hi.

I am moving my site to a new domain and I moved it together with FV player etc, but HLS encrypted videos running via BunnyCDN and hosted on DigitalOcean can’t be played there. The player tries to address the old domain (oldomain.com?stream_optim=/for-begin-lesson1/index’) which ends up in CORS error and generally is no go. I’ve checked the database for leftover links to the old domain and it is not the case. Also, modifies m3u8 files which contained such links (#EXT-X-KEY:METHOD=AES-128,URI=”https://olddomain.com/?stream_optim=/for-begin-lesson1/index“) and modified them as well. Cleaned the cache everywhere, but that didn’t help either.
BTW, videos were encrypted via Coconut. The FV coconut player also has a license issue. It does not accept any license, although I did necessary changes in my account.
Any idea how to track the issue down?
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    With regards, Dimitri

    Hello Dimitri,

please let us know what was your domain name before and after. Did it change completely? For the HLS decryption key we allow sub-domains to get the key but if the domain was changed completely it won’t work.

However you did mention you updated the m3u8 files – did you really do that with the files stored on DigitalOcean Spaces? It could also be adjusted with a WordPress filter fv_player_drm_stream_loader_output in PHP.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin.

Yes, its a completely different TLD.
As for the m3u8 files – I just tried to modify on one video.
Does this mean I need to re-encrypt via Coconut all those videos or is there a simpler solution?

    Regards, Dimitri

Kind of sorted it out for now.
    Thanks a lot Martin!

    Hello Dimitri,

re-encoding would be the last option.

As I was mentioning something could be done about this using PHP code, so we will discuss if our plugin could make these website migrations easier.

Please let us know how did you fix these issues when you have a minute.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin.

the first solution is to modify m3u8 files, which is burdensome.

My second solution is not elegant, since I am not a programmer. But it works temporarily. You directed me to a fv_player_drm_stream_loader_output filter and I ended up modifying the decryption_key_subdomains function. Since the domains are different I reversed the comparison logic. Check the picture.

A permanent solution for domain transfers would be a great thing. Also, I see no possibility to remove that old domain from the licenses list in my account on your web-site, only a change against a new one. I didn’t understand that, so I ended up using 2 licenses.

    Regards, Dimitri

    Hello Dimitri,

We are thinking about letting FV Player Pro accept the encrypted HLS streams from and of your licensed domains. If we allow any random domain it could potentially be exploited to lower the video protection.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Sounds great.
    Thank you Martin.

Yes, this is definitely planned Dmitrii. The only issue is that for each domain which can play these files a publisher will require a license.

    Hello Dimitrii,

Please deactivate and delete the FV Player Pro plugin you are using, then hit “Install Pro extension” at the top of the wp-admin -> FV Player -> Settings screen.

Then switch to the Beta release using the steps from here if you are not already using it: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta

That will give you the FV Player Pro plugin with the the new “Encrypted Playback for 3rd Party Domains (Pro)” tool available in wp-admin -> FV Player -> Settings -> Tools.

    Thanks,
    Martin
