html5: Video file not found

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › html5: Video file not found

  • Steve D. 7 years, 8 months ago

    Hello,

As of the middle of August (last month) all my videos were playing perfectly but when I checked one of them today I was getting the html5: Video file not found error. Then I checked all my other domains with different videos but all with the exact same settings that also were all working perfectly, now display the same html5 error.
Here is one of the pages:
    https://wp2fp.com/error-test-page/

    What I’ve done so far:
I went to AWS console to insure all settings have not changed
Deactivated (then re-activated) each plugin one at a time to see if that helped, it didn’t
I did all this while Cloudflare was in dev mode and after I purged all cache

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello Steve,

Thanks for the detailed description of your problem. I checked the video on your test page and it seems to me from the response in the browser’s dev console that the file can’t be loaded because of wrong access key. Could you try to update the AWS access keys by following this guide?

Another cause of this issue (although I don’t think that this is the root of the problem) could be the fact that your website is on HTTPS and your video is served via HTTP. Is it possible that you upgraded to HTTPS recently?

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,

After posting this a couple days ago, I did more digging and found a previous post of mine about a year ago on a very similar situation and it had to do with my hosting service not having the server time properly configured.

Then, like now, I had just made a change to my server package and something happened in that change that adjusted the server time and screwed everything up that is time based – like the expire time on any AWS URLs I generate.

So I posted a support ticket with the hosting service but due to the holiday here in the US, I’ve not yet heard back from them but hopefully I will today.

I’ll return here with any findings as soon as this is resolved.

I’m pretty sure it will end up being the server time and nothing else.

Thank you again for your response Eduard.

    All is working now.

It turned out to be a combination of things – I think.

The Server support staff confirmed there was a configuration issue of the server after the change in the server package but has not yet replied to my question as to the exacts of the ‘mis-configuration’.

But here is where it gets a little more odd.

The videos now give me the yellow ‘Video Warnings’ error message and when I change the S3 URL from https://plrvideodirect.com.s3.amazonaws.com…
    to
    https://s3.amazonaws.com/plrvideodirect.com…

It works perfectly and gives me the green Video Ok message.

So instead of getting my video URL from Cloudberry Explorer which I always do and it, up until recently, always worked, I got the URL from my AWS Management Console.

Bottom Line – everything is again working.

Hopefully this will help anyone else that has similar issues.

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for describing this here. As for the Video Warning, what did the video checker say about the video? Could you post a screenshot here?

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,

    Image attached.

You may be able to see other issues and I’d appreciate any and all feedback to help me prevent future issues and anyone else that has similar problems.

    Thank you again.

    Hello Steve,

it is what it is – if your site is using https:// the videos on it must use https:// as well, otherwise there might be issues. Browser do so to make sure you connection stays secure.

It seems iOS and Android 4 doesn’t obey these restrictions though. But majority of users will still have issues.

Your Amazon S3 bucket has two addresses, that’s right but only the one which is on s3.amazonaws.com domain has a correct SSL certificate. For plrvideodirect.com.s3.amazonaws.com the SSL certificate doesn’t pass the check.

    Thanks,
    Martin
