HTML Video tag is added the HTML after the video is clicked, causing SEO problem

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › HTML Video tag is added the HTML after the video is clicked, causing SEO problem

  • Francesco 9 months, 1 week ago

I recently noticed that the videos in my website are causing issues with SEO crawlers and maybe even google, the HTML tag <video> only shows up after the video is interacted with. Is there any configuration or code fragment that can fix this? I need the HTML <video> to be present in my HTML so it can be parsed

    Hello Francesco,

Could you please share more details about what these SEO crawlers say about the video tags?

You already use the video sitemap so that search engines can find the videos.

I checked YouTube and Vimeo and they do not use the <video> tags in HTML either. If you use a web player it’s normal to not use these tags, they should only be present if you rely on the browser built-in player.

    Thanks,
    Martin

sure, let me upload a couple of images, in the first image the video has not been clicked yet so the <video> tag is not present, in the second the video has been clicked and the <video> tag is present. Due to that behavior a SEO tool (SEMRUSH) is having trouble recognizing the videos in the URLs it checks, that’s what I’m trying to work around

Thank you for letting us know it’s Semrush, we will have a look to see if anything should be improved.

    Thanks,

    Hi Francesco,

It looks like this is just SEMrush looking for unnecessary improvements. If you want to use the built-in html 5 player in the browser, you would not use a javascript player. Almost everyone does use a javascript player.

Could you give us some examples of sites with external player (mediaelement.js, jwplayer, plyr.io, etc) who are passing this test?

We are interested in following up this issue.

    Cordial regards, Alec
