Getting error after upgrading to v 2.1.12.

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Getting error after upgrading to v 2.1.12.

  • Martin 12 years, 8 months ago

Just upgraded to Foliovision Version 2.1.12. Had been working on this installation and several others using this theme (AgentPress from StudioPress).

Now above each of our videos, we get a brief message on page load above the video:

    “Checking the video file.”

and then a error message stays on screen above the video:

    “Analysis of http://nancyrork.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/5115-shore-drive-carlsbad.mp4 (local):

    Format: mp4
    Meta Data (moov) position: 28
Seek points: 6207 (stts sample count)
    Audio: 1 stream, mp4 (ISO/IEC 14496-3 AAC) 44100Hz, 2 channels, 16bit, stereo
    Video: avc1 (H.264 Encoder) codec, mp42 (MS-MPEG4 v2 Decoder) file type “

Videos worked fine before this upgrade. Verified error in Firefox/21 and IE/10.

    Hi Mark,

The video checking message should only appear to admin users.

The video checks should not affect in any way performance: they are there to alert you as an admin user what possible issues could affect your video.

Could you send us more info about the new errors (i.e. did they exist before or not)?

Downgrading to 2.1.11 should have no effect on your videos apart from removing the video checker. If 2.1.12 really causes videos not to play right which were playing properly in 2.1.11 or prior, we’d like to know about it with examples.

What we are working on now in the grand scheme of things is helping our users get faster loads and timeline scrubbing (so that no one has to wait for a full video to download to be able to enjoy smooth playback). It’s not just a plugin issue but a media and server issue so that’s what these warnings are about: helping you to be able improve your server and encoding set up for the smoothest possible playback.

Making the web work for you, Alec

Well I’ve always been an admin user and it never appeared before. Very annoying as I switch from edit mode to view the site in another browser tab and it’s distorts the true appearance of the site as public would see it. I don’t see an option to turn it off – had never happened before the upgrade so have never checked for that option but cannot find it now anyway.
Per my originating message: Videos worked fine before this upgrade. Verified error in Firefox/21 and IE/10.

The site as indicated from the error I sent in the originating post is: http://nancyrork.com

    Hi Mark,

You didn’t see the warnings before as it is a new feature. If you’d like to see your site as the end user, I suggest you open another browser in which you are not logged in. Checking your site while logged in is a very dangerous practice. That said, I’ll work on minimizing those messages: there’s no reason for them to be so verbose. You really only need to know pass or fail with the rest of the message appearing on click.

I’ve taken a look at http://nancyrork.com/ home page video on Mac 10.6.8 in Safari 5.0.5, Chromium 23.0, Opera 12.15 and Firefox 21. Safari and Opera are okay but both Chromium and Firefox are a bit jumpy.

We’ll get that fixed first thing tomorrow. Thanks for letting us know about the issue Mark!

PS. In the meantime, please use 2.1.11 on http://nancyrork.com/

    Martin,

I’m having an issue with Flowplayer again. I updated it to version Version 2.1.12 and now we’re getting these errors above the videos on the page. The videos still work, but the error message is annoying. I don’t really want to downgrade just hoping you could look at it quick and see what might be causing this?

    Best Regards,
    Andy

    Hello Mark and Andy,

here’s how to remove these warnings:

Add following code at the end of your functions.php file of your template:

    add_filter( ‘fv_flowplayer_do_media_test’, ‘__return_false’ );

Make sure these quotes are normal quotes and not UTF8 fancy quotes. It you know a bit of PHP, you should be able to do it.

Sorry about the inconvenience, but we were getting so many complains from people who couldn’t check the proper mime type of their videos, that we decided to put in these warnings and didn’t realized they might be a bit too much sometimes.

However they should not affect playback in any way.

I tested the video on your site in IE9 and FF21 and it plays for me. Are you sure you tested if these videos play below these warnings?

In next version (we want to release today) these warnings will be less annoying and there will be option to turn them off too.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Mark and Andy,

we just released version 2.1.13, which has an option to disabled the automated checks or only show these messages if there is really an error.

It’s in Settings -> FV WordPress Flowplayer -> Front-end video checker.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Mark,

when you have a bit of time, could you please open this special URL in your Chrome and paste its output here or send it to us via email? It should help diagnosing the problem – it might be related specifically to how your Chrome is using your hardware to decode the video.

    chrome://gpu

I’m attaching my results, I had no problem with playing of your video, except when it was playing in full screen and I dragged some other window on top of it: http://foliovision.com/downloads/chrome-gpu.htm

There have been weird issue with Chrome before:
    https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=113014
    https://productforums.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/chrome/gZQaQc7FSLM

Hopefully we can then figure out what exact codec and settings are best for Chrome and other browsers too.

    Thanks,
    Martin
