Flash problem with chrome

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Flash problem with chrome

    We have problem with a radio player after the latest updates of Chrome, Adobe Flash player is blocked every time you access the site.
    As a result the user needs to explicitly allow Flash execution again and again.
    On the mobile version the fv player works good, but on the desktop version of chrome(version 60) they don’t play without anytime enable the plugin for flash player at url line of chrome.

    Is there any configuration that can be applied so that SWF file is not used? Or can flowplayer work without loading flash?
    The problem is for the radio player on left top side of the site http://www.melodia.gr

    you can check at implementation here http://www.melodia.gr/wp-content/themes/theme48844/flowplayer/player_fun.js?v=1

    Hello dnikolakopoulos,

    I’m sorry but I didn’t get any Flash requests when I opened your page in Chrome 60. Also, is this radio button in any way related to FV Player?

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,

    we are facing the following issue. When the play button is pressed nothing happens. The play button is bound with the on-click of the .play_button class element that should just call the .play() method of the FV Player. For reading purposes, I’ve boiled it down to just the bare minimum implementation.

    $(document).ready(function() {

        desktop_player()

        $('a.play_button').click(function() {
            $f(0).play();
            return false;
        });
    })

    function desktop_player() {
        $f("player", {
            src: "[deducted]/flowplayer-3.2.16.swf",
            wmode: "opaque"
        }, {
            clip: {
                live: true,
                autoPlay: false,
                provider: "akamai",
                stopLiveOnPause: false

            },
            playlist: [
                "[deducted]/manifest.f4m"
            ],
            plugins: {
                akamai: {
                    url: '/player/AkamaiFlowPlugin.swf'
                },
                controls: {
                    fullscreen: false,
                    height: 30,
                    autoHide: false
                }
            }
        });
    }

    But hitting play doesn’t start the stream (or reveal any issues for that matter). If you select to allow the flash player then this will reveal the blocked flash plugin issue. If you then choose to “run the plugin at this time” it should start streaming (in 4-5 seconds)

    Hello Nikos,

    Thanks for the extensive report. Our senior programmer will take a look on this, but he’s on his vacation right now, so it will have to wait until Wednesday. Thank you in advance for your patience.

    Hello Nikos,

    I see you use the old Flowplayer 3. I would suggest you upgrade to a HTML5 compatible video and latest FV Player.

    I see you are using f4m for streaming, but you also have HLS streams available. In new FV Player you can play HLS streams even on desktop computers without Flash – it just must be a modern browser. The Flash fallback is still provided for old browsers. Yo can read more about the HLS requirements for desktop here: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/hls

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

    We have tried upgrading to the latest version in our test environment and still had no luck playing the stream. How can we check if our stream is HTML5 compatible (keep in mind also that this is not a video, is just a live audio stream)? Have you managed to play the specific HLS using the latest version of the player?

    Thanks

    Hello Nikos,

    I checked your site again and was able to listen to the radio without problems. I was testing in on desktop in Chrome 60, Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox 54 and 55. What browser were you using when you were unable to play the stream?

    I also created this demo of your stream playing in FV Player on one of our test sites – http://lucia.foliopress.net/nikos-hls-test/ (login: foliovision, password: HiddenWebsite).
