Bad Vimeo video names in Google Analytics

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Bad Vimeo video names in Google Analytics

    Hi,

we are using Vimeo as our host for the videos that we’ve been embedding via flowplayer, but the views that the videos receive on our site aren’t recorded in the Vimeo stats. So when you check the view stats of the video on Vimeo, it will be extremely low, despite being viewed sometimes hundreds of thousands of times.

Is there a separate way to record view statistics for videos served through flowplayer?

    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hello again,

I was able to set up google analytics to track my Flowplayer videos, and it works great! However, I do have one question – while looking at the events for a video, how can I tell which event label correlates to which video? Perhaps it’s due to the fact that I’m using Vimeo as my host for these flowplayer videos, but the event labels are all just numbers, such as “322110164” (please see attached screen capture). Right now, determining which video that corresponds to is pure guesswork on my part.

    Any advice is much appreciated!

    Hello Mike,

thank you for the bug report!

Please upgrade to FV Player Pro 0.2.7 – this was fixed. From now on the Vimeo videos will report as “Vimeo: {video name} ({video id})”.

That should cover your needs, please let us know how it works for you.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Thank you so much! One more question – Where in Google Analytics does it show the number of “views” that a video receives. I understand that Event Value = Total seconds played, but I’d also like to know how many views the video receives (in the same way that Youtube and Vimeo track views.) Can you tell me what the equivalent would be within google analytics?

    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Number of views for a Vimeo video can be seen in here:

Google analytics > Behavior > Events > Top Events > Video / Seconds played > In the tab “Primary Dimension” choose “Event Label”. You can also choose how you want to display your data visually (data, percentage, performance, comparison, pivot).

    Hope it helps!

    Hello Mike,

due to user request (whitelabel issues), we changed the Vimeo video titles from “Vimeo: {video name} ({video id})”. to just “{video name} ({video id})”.

That means in Google Analytics you have to look for titles with 9 digit numbers in brackets to identify the Vimeo videos, or you can search for the known video ID directly.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I did not agree to hide the Vimeo info yet. I suggest you take Chan’s requests with a grain of salt. He finds five feature requests in his breakfast cereal every month.

Please change the Vimeo videos to have an option to hide the Vimeo info. Many people will be pleased and happy to advertise their Vimeo connection, even with a third party player (used for enhanced functionality and aesthetics).

    Thanks!

    Hello Mike,

update: we made this optional, so your video will continue using “Vimeo: {video name} ({video id})”, just update to latest version if you already updated the plugin last week.

    Thanks,
    Martin
