Audio cracks after first 5 seconds on all video with shortcode

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Audio cracks after first 5 seconds on all video with shortcode

  • pbuser 4 years, 4 months ago

Hi, I’m facing a weird problem. After 5 seconds there’s a small and short burst of a crackling sound in all of my videos. Like if someone accidentally fiddled with the mic or something.

All of my videos are hosted with Vimeo and watching the same video, either on vimeo.com or embedded on my site, the crackling sound is gone. But when I embed the same video via fv-player shortcode [fvplayer id="#"] the crackling sound is there. It’s only heard once and always after 5 seconds.

    Here’s a URL so that you can see, or hear, the problem;

    https://www.iamyoga.online/test-fv-player-audio-cracks/

Is this something you’ve experienced before perhaps?

    Thanks, all the best! /David

    Hi David,

Thank you for bringing this up and reporting about the issue.

I tested the URL – both videos played fine in Safari Version 14.0.1 browser, but I could reproduce the cracking sound issue in Chrome Version 88.0.4324.96.

I’ll forward the error to our development team to further solve this issue and we’ll get back to you soon.

    Thanks,
    Chiara

    Hi Chiara,

Thanks for the quick reply! I get (hear) the same issue with Safari Version 14.0.2 (16610.3.7.1.9), it’s not exactly the same sound/crackle, more of a small snap, but it’s the same issue after the same amount of time.

I don’t get this issue watching via Chrome or Safari on my iPhone though, so it seems to be a desktop browser issue

Hope you can find out what’s causing this, thanks for great support as always!

    /David

Hi Chiara, I hope all is well. I understand you all must have a lot on your plates. I was just wondering if you’ve had any time looking into this issue yet? Any update would be much appreciated :)

    Thanks, all the best! /David

    Hello David,

the issue must be that in FV Player Pro the video stars playing with a different initial quality which is then switched after 5 seconds.

Or the DASH video/audio segment duration might be slightly off – creating the audio glitch.

I will take your video and try it in a stand-alone MPEG-DASH player to see if I get that same issue there.

However when I played the video on your website what I heard was not a simple audio glitch, it was a more complex sound. But I found no explanation so far.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for the update! Ok, are there any settings I can fiddle with perhaps to avoid the glitch?

And/or do you need anything from my end? The original video, admin-access or something like that?

    Thanks again!

    Hello David,

I just have to get to it.

In the meantime you can enable Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting -> Vimeo -> Disable MPEG-DASH.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello David,

I was not able to reproduce this issue, please let me know if you still run into the issue on https://www.iamyoga.online/test-fv-player-audio-cracks/ when you uncheck Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting -> Vimeo -> Disable MPEG-DASH and what Vimeo video link are you using there.

    Thanks,
    Martin
