Quality Switch, hide some label

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Requests and Feedback › Quality Switch, hide some label

  • Gergely K. 10 years ago

    Hey Support,

I am serving mostly HD source videos in 4 different quality on my site. (270p 360p 720p and 1080p) So I render and upload 4 these four versions to the server, I got all these labels appearing my video player as i set this way.

But i got several SD videos also, which only match the 270p and 360p settings, so i upload only these small two versions to the server, and set the flplayer to enable quality switching. But then I play the video on the site, and the larger labels 720p and 1080p, also still appears on the player, and if these buttons pushed player will show error that it can’t find videos (of course those not there)

This is confusing to the users, isn’t it possible that in this case only two labels would appear on the player? So visitors would clearly see that only 2 versions are available for that specific video?

    Thanks,
    Gregory

    Hello Gergely,

thank you for the suggestion, I think we could add an interface which would change the qsel=”true” shortcode option to something like:

qsel=”-270p,-360p,-720p” and then only show these options.

We will discuss this in our team.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hey Martin, that would be awesome!

    Hi Martin,

Is there any improvement on this question?

    Thanks,

    Hello Gergely,

we decided that we will want to put this into our GUI, so this will take some more time. We are also busy with the Flowplayer 6 upgrade.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

I am really stuck with this problem, can you please recommend some work around for the problem if you have any? I have already 200 videos put aside because can’t update them if player shows error message.

I still really loved to use quality switching for my sd videos too, so disabling quality switch wouldn’t work for me.

    Many thanks!

    Hello Gergely,

I’m sorry, but we were bogged down by some unexpected work and we didn’t had time to move on this.

It would be done already, but we want to do it the right way rather than release something one programmers will know how to use.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hey Martin,

Thanks for reply, I Didn’t mean to hurry you at all.

Was looking for a workaround only. Since then I got that idea I just copy the lower quality files and name them same ways as they were higher quality files, in this way system finds it and at least it plays them and not showing error message. Ofcourse it means visitor not seeing better quality content only the low res ones.

Then ones your update comes out I will fix and delete the fake high resolution videos.

    Regards,
    Gregory

    Hello Gregory,

that looks like a good workaround. I guess you can then look at what files have same size and find these missing versions that way.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Gergely,

the quality switching was improved in FV Player Pro 0.7.26 in the Beta release so that it won’t hard fail if you switch to a missing quality file.

This fix will now be part of FV Player Pro 0.8.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hey, That’s an awesome news, thank you for improving on it!

So what will happen if for example there is no 1080p version? Will it still shows the 1080p option on the player? if yes what it will play if user chooses the missing 1080p option?

    thanks,
    Gregory

    Hi Gergely,

That depends on the values you have set in the Quality Switching options, but in general, it should do no harm.

I tested it by adding 1080 quality to the existing settings we are using (HD, SD, and Mobile). Switching to the (non-existing) 1080 quality just caused the player to switch to HD and the playback normally continued.

If you would encounter any problems with this, let us know.

    Thanks,
    Eduard
