Hi there,
I would like to translate the text of the navigation bar like the “Items” (see screenshot)? Where can I do that?
Thanks!

Hi Martin,
thank you for your reply. Of course I will tell you, who to translate the to buttons in German. The “All” button is in Germany mostly not a word, but an icon like the repeat icon:
<i class="fa fa-repeat" aria-hidden="true"></i>
Instead of the icon, the correct translation would be “Schleife” (or “Dauerschleife”).
The German translation of the “Item” button is “Liste” (or “Menü”).
Now I would be glad, when you tell me, where I can change these words myself, if I prefer other translations. Thank you!
Anonymous 5 years agoHi Martin,
thanks you very much for your reply. For the “All” we would say in German “Liste” (or even “Menü”). In case of the “Playlist Repeat Control” we use the translation “Schleife” (or “Dauerschleife”). But I think an icon is much better than this word. Maybe you embed this
<i class="fa fa-repeat" aria-hidden="true"></i>
Now I would be very happy, when you tell me the location, where I can change these and other translation for myself. Thank you!
Best,
DanielHi Daniel,
Thanks for the translations. You’ll be able to change the German translations but they will be overwritten on update. It would be quite a bit of work to allow people to have custom translations for each language. This is the kind of feature which has really heavy administrative overhead for little benefit to most users. We might be able to finagle being able to change the defaults for FV Player (which effectively would allow you to change these items to what you want but only in the primary language).
Alternatively (and much easier for us), is that you’d be able to change the po file but would have to add your custom DE po file back in with each update. That I think is the way we will go for now.
I’ll think about it. Feel free to present arguments and technical suggestions for how to do this without spending dozens of hours building a complex language management module.

Anonymous 5 years agoHi Alex,
thanks for your reply! I agree the second solution, but therefor I need to know the direcotry of the DE po file with all the words of your plugin?
…/wp-content/plugins/fv-player-pro/languages → In this directory I found the “fv-player-pro-de_DE.po”, but in this file I can’t translate all the keywords of your plugin (for example the words in the navigation bar of the video player like “All”, “Items” etc …)
…/wp-content/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/languages → In this directory I have the same problem like in the other directory.
In addition I would be glad if you could tell me how to integrate the language file into my child theme so that the updates are no longer a problem?
Thank you!
Best regards,
DanielHI Daniel,
Here’s a suggestion: you could use gettext filter to change some of the words for FV Player interface – as long as they already user language hook. More options are not planned right now. If you’d like to play with the po files directly, this is where we keep them: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/tree/master/languages
Good luck with it. Thanks for your help with the improved translation for the standard German version. If you find any other phrases we should change in the master, just let us know and we’ll do it.

Anonymous 5 years agoHi Alec,
thank you for your answer! When I would like to change the words “Item 1.” and “All”, I can’t find them in po.-file?! How is the solution?
If I have more German translations, I will gladly share them with you.
Best,
Daniel
