Video Schema Markup Picking up the Wrong Name Description

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Bug Reports › Video Schema Markup Picking up the Wrong Name Description

  • Jovan 3 years, 1 month ago

I was using the Schema Markup Validator and noticed the FV Player video schema markup is picking up the wrong NAME and DESCRIPTION.

For NAME it is picking up HTML code. The NAME should be the title of the post.

For DESCRIPTION it is picking up part of the excerpt with HTML code and “read more”. For the DESCRIPTION is should be the description in the body(maybe the first few lines).

I am using the Olympus WordPress theme and Elementor with Gutenberg Blocks turned on.

Let me know how to fix this issue.

    Thank you

    Hello Jovan,

We apologize for the late reply.

We were not able to reproduce the issue. Schema validator picks up the correct name and description for videos on foliovision.com. Could you please send us a link to a video in question, so that we could test it hands-on?

    Thanks,
    Maria

Ok, I think what is happening is that the schema markup is picking up my video pre-roll ads and marking them up which causes two VideoObject in my schema.

I am using this testing tool for schema validation.

    Hello Jovan,

could you please reinstall FV Player from this link? https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/refs/heads/4990880049-schema.org-video-ads-fix.zip To do that you will have to first deactivate and delete the current FV Player plugin you are using. WordPress will warn you that you might loose settings and data, but it’s not the case with our plugin, no settings now videos will be lost. Or you can just replace the plugin files via FTP.

Then the issues should be fixed – please let us know and we will make it part of the next FV Player release.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Ok, that fixed the issue.

Now, the video schema shows the description with HTML elements in it.

    Hello Jovan,

please reinstall from https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/refs/heads/4990880049-schema.org-video-ads-fix.zip one more time, it should be fixed.

It seems your theme adds some HTML markup for the excerpt more text, so I just set it to use the WordPress default.

    Thanks,
    Martin

It looks like it is fixed. Please verify if you see what I see?

Is there any way to increase the character count of the video description?

Currently, the character count is around 50. Best practices say about 160 characters is optimal.

    Please let me know.

    Hello Jovan,

that is a simple and effective improvement. If you need it now please reinstall from https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/refs/heads/4990880049-schema.org-video-ads-fix.zip yet again.

It will be part of the next FV Player release too.

    Thanks,
    Martin

The video schema markup has an invalid datetime value. I have attached a screenshot.

Is it possible to add “uploadDate” in the schema?

I added an example of a video schema markup. Is this possible?

    Type: VideoObject
    Name: Happy Video
    Thumbnail Url: https://cdn.example.com/videos/happy-video.jpg
Description: A happy video for all
    Upload Date: 12/24/1988
    Duration: “IS THIS POSSIBLE?”
    Content Url: https://cdn.example.com/videos/happy-video/
    Video Embeded URL
    Interaction Count: “IS THIS POSSIBLE?”

    Hello Jovan,

The uploadDate is already part of the FV Player Schema.org markup. It uses the last modification date of the post:

    <meta itemprop="uploadDate" content="2024-01-02" />

According to https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/video both the above and the following formats should be valid:

    <meta itemprop="uploadDate" content="2016-03-31T08:00:00+08:00" />

But I got that same Schema.org warning when testing with https://search.google.com/test/rich-results

So I put in that longer uploadDate format and now it’s passing.

Could you please reinstall FV Player from this link and see if it helps in your case too? https://foliovision.com/downloads/fv-wordpress-flowplayer.zip

If you are getting 12/24/1988 then that’s indeed strange. Please check what exactly appears in the HTML and what’s your post modification date.

    Thanks,
    Martin
