sad face, shocked face and pig face emojis in fv player, feature or bug?

Hello,
Thanks for the great FV video plugin, it’s been a powerful feature for independence the big video platforms.

I have a general concern, not exactly a support request. I’m noticing new emojis in the bottom left and right corners of the FV video player that flash for a split second when a video is played, is this intentional and programmed by the official FV team? I’m just checking to make sure there’s not a malicious script infecting my plug-in.

Please consider this a general inquiry/potential bug report. If I need premium support I’ll be happy to pay for the official support service. Hopefully these new emojis are not a bug, but rather a feature. It’s just something that seems a bit unexpected so I want to confirm it’s intentional by the official team and not an possible indication of a supply chain attack or any form of hacker defacement.

Hello Ben,

thank you for the bug report. I saw this issue once on my test site and I thought it was one of the new plugins I was trying, but now that I think of it it’s making some sense –

Do you have Emojis enabled?

The thing is that we set the loading of custom webfonts in FV Player CSS to happen asynchronously. It helped with the Google PageSpeed scores – they want you to specify this for every webfont which you use. But based on what you say it seems that the Emojis might be interfering with this.

Thanks for the bug report.

Hi Martin,

We don’t want emojis anywhere near FV Player. Particularly any performance penalty for loading them.

Hi Alec and Martin, here’s what I know so far:

Using the Brave browser on desktop, the issue doesn’t occur. It only happens on IOS. I tried disabling the emoji keyboard and it still occurred.

I’ve uploaded a screen shot, please advise.

It doesn’t bother me that much but I’d just like to be assured that it’s not a malicious script infection.

Hello Ben,

next version of FV Player will prevent these emojis from appearing. Seems like there is no way around it, so we will disable the CSS declaration which says that the font might be replaced by a fallback font if it’s slow to load.
