Player doesn’t go completely fullscren on Android/Chrome

[Solved]

  • Kristin K. 4 years, 7 months ago

    Hi,

I just tried on of our videos on my Google Pixel phone Android 10 in Chrome browser 86.0.4240.75 and it doesn’t fully go fullscreen, leaving the white bar at the bottom, that was not happening before.

Also as a feature request: it would be nice to be able to double tap on the video in the left or right area to skip 10 seconds forward or backwards, just like it is done in YouTube, Vimeo and some other HTML players.

    Thanks!

    Hello Kristin,

thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We have tested this issue on the device you described and we can confirm experiencing this issue. It only happens on Google Pixel devices with Android 10 and 11. We will take a closer look at this issue and get back to you soon.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Kristin,

I found what we need to improve about how we call the HTML5 fullscreen function – navigationUI needs to be set to “hide”. We will make that change.

We have received similar request for easier mobile seek forward and backward. I will check with Alec if we like that YouTube-like double tap interface.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Kristin,

we fixed that fullscreen issue and will include it in the next FV Player release.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Tested, that is fixed now, thank you very much!

Just as additional feedback, I think it makes sense to automatically rotate the video in landscape mode on the phone when user clicks full screen button, and upon living the full screen rotate it back, just like YouTube app does, It forces the user to follow the position of the video and use the the best position.

Presently when I go full sreen in FV the video plays in small, then the user should think to rotate the phone to landscape, and when they leave the full screen they are left with the landscape version of the site which can be confusing. Doing the auto rotate, will force people to follow the position of the screen, and the UX will be much smoother I think.

Not sure if it’s possible to return the screen to horizontal mode upon leaving the screen, but youtube video embed certainly can rotate the video upon entering full screen

    Thanks!

    Hello Kristin,

please check Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Mobile Settings -> Force landscape orientation in fullscreen. Perhaps we should make it on at all times and remove that option. It should work reliably on Android phones.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Amazing, I didn’t know there is such an option. Would be great to have it on iOS too. Thanks for everything Martin!

    Hello Sebastian,

please, go to Settings -> FV Player -> Mobile Settings and check, if you have “Force fullscreen on mobile” enabled.

If you do have this enabled and the issues persist, please, provide us with info about the device, OS and browser in which you experience this issue.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Sebastian,

I see that when I play the video it does enter fullscreen, but not the landscape mode.

If I then exit the fullscreen it pauses the video. Then if I continue playing the video it does enter fullscreen again and this time in the landscape orientation.

Seems to me something has changed in one of the recent Chrome versions. I hope we can fix this, as some of these advanced browser functions require user gesture to have the permission.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Sebastian,

we prepared a fix for this for the next FV Player release. You can test it on https://foliovision.com

If you want the fix right now you please reinstall FV Player from this link: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/master.zip

To do that you will have to first deactivate and delete the current FV Player plugin you are using. WordPress will warn you that you might loose settings and data, but it’s not the case with our plugin, no settings now videos will be lost. Or you can just replace the plugin files via FTP.

We are also fixing the bug which causes the scroll position to not restore properly when leaving fullscreen on mobile.

Our next goal is to make it work on iOS: https://foliovision.com/support/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/how-to/disable-or-hide-items-from-the-control-bar

    Thanks,
    Martin
