decrypting HLS encryption key broken in Safari browser

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Bug Reports › decrypting HLS encryption key broken in Safari browser

  • Carl 6 years, 4 months ago

In the “add video” window of the player, when adding an encrypted HLS video, the decryption of the encryption key is broken. This happens in the Safari browser on Mac. In Chrome browser no problem, one clicks “decrypt” and the decrypted key appears in the area above. In Safari however this doesn’t happen properly. The indicator says “video ok” but it doesn’t play and throws error messages about video not encoded properly etc.

I just wasted a lot of time on this before finding out it is actually due to the browser, so I thought I’d mention it here.

    Carl.

    Hello Carl,

thank you for the bug report. I was not able to reproduce the issue using Safari 11.1 on macOS High Sierra.

If you are using FV Player Pro 7.3.7.727.beta please make sure you update to 7.3.8.727.beta.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Using Safari 12.0.2, MacOS 10.13.6

    Martin 6 years ago

    Hello Carl,

I found no issues on Safari 12.0 and 12.0.3 on mac OS 10.12.6 nor 10.14.

But I noticed a strange thing happening once – I entered bad Encryption key and the alert box letting me know about it appeared behind the FV Player editor – so it was not visible until I closed it. I wasn’t able to reproduce that issue again.

    Thanks,
    Martin
