Amazon secure link expires and the player doesn't refresh

[Solved]

After leaving a loaded page for a while, this happens after clicking a video link. The same if the video is paused and play is hit after a while.

The player should automatically ask for a new link instead of showing this message.

    Some of my FVPlayer settings:

Default Expiration Time [minutes] (?): 55
Force the default expiration time: ON
    Amazon S3 Ajax (Pro): ON

    Hi Ákos,

Do you have any rough estimate on the time after which the issue occurs? I just tested opening the page and not playing the video, waiting for 10+ minutes and then trying playback, and also opening the page, playing the video, pausing it, waiting 10+ minutes and playing it again. I was not able to replicate the issue, though.

It would also help if you could share the user agent you were using (you can check your user agent with this tool).

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi,

    My user agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0

Alas, it happens in every browser installed on my machine.

Since I have set 55 minutes for expiration, I guess it happens after that.
However the time is not my concern. I’ve set the expiration time so high to see less of this issue.

I think the player should, – if the link expired – just ask for a new link, instead of showing this error message. Also, I should not need to refresh the entire page if the link expired. The player has the amazon key. It can make a new request from the server without the user manually refreshing the page.

To replicate the issue, please open the URL in 2 tabs. In the first tab start playback then pause. Check in an hour if you can resume playback. Also click in various places along the timeline to bypass cache.

Leave the second tab open for an hour then attempt playback of a video. Sometimes playback starts for about a second, then the error message appears.

    Thank you.

    Hi Ákos,

In FV Player Pro you can enable Ajax for Amazon S3 (in Settings > FV Player > Hosting tab > Amazon S3 Protected Content), which makes sure the video link is fresh when you play the video. That should solve most of the issue.

The second part of the issue – playing the video and then coming back to the browser after it timed out and trying to seek into some unbuffered part of the video – we’ll have to make sure if today’s browsers buffer the full video when it uses HTTP pseudostreaming like an MP4 file would and eventually improve this.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi, Eduard,

In my first post I mentioned some of the FVPlayer Pro settings. Among them the fact that the ajax setting is “ON”.

    So why isn’t it working?

Also, I didn’t understand your reply related to the second part of the issue – whether there was anything I could do to improve the situation.

    Thank you.

    Hi Akos,

There is no other setting that could fix this at this moment, but we’ll add these to our task lists and try to fix it in the near future. I’ll let you know when it will be done.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hello Ákos,

the reload of Amazon S3 URL signature in case of it expiration has been added in FV Player Pro 6.6.1.

    Thanks,
    Martin
