Text Description in Vertical Season

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Text Description in Vertical Season

  • Gregory J. 3 years, 11 months ago

I’m using the vertical season playlist style on a page, however I am unable to add or import descriptive text as shown in the demo. I am bringing the video in from Vimeo, where it also has a description. Is there a setting I’m missing?

    Hello Gregory,

    thank you for your question!

I believe you mean the caption. Please, make sure that you have the “2017 with captions” design selected in Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Skin -> Playlist

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi there,

    I’m having a similar problem.
I have a showcase imported from vimeo that loads fine however it is not showing the synopsis next to the thumbnail like it shows in the demonstration:
    https://foliovision.com/player/demos/playlist-styles

Is there a setting that I have missed?

    Hello William,

    thank you for your question!

First go to Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Post Interface options and make sure you have “Synopsis” enabled. This makes the synopsis filed in the shortcode editor visible.

However, the synopsis is not parsed automatically from Vimeo. You will have to write/paste it in manually.

    Hi Maria,

    Thanks for the quick response.

That would be a great function to have alongside the vimeo playlist feature.

Is this something that might be implemented in the near future?

Or is it something I could possibly work around with some extra coding?

    Hi Maria,

I have another follow up question:
How can I manually write/paste a synopsis into a playlist created from a vimeo showcase? There only seems to be one item in the list

    Martin 4 years ago

    Hello William,

I think we could make it use the Vimeo video description for the synopsis. That way it would always show if your playlist style would be set to “Vertical Season”.

Please let us know if you typically fill in the video descriptions.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

    That would be great.

Yes I keep all my video content details stored in Vimeo, ie. synopsis, categories, tags, etc and I’ve just been creating individual posts with a single fv player code for each video then manually copy/pasting all the required info into each post.

However if there is a way to retrieve the synopsis from vimeo in the ‘Vertical Season’ playlist this would save a significant amount of time for me. As well as help simplify my my site structure.

    Hi William,

The issue we’d be facing here is whether to pull the data once and store it or to regularly update it. What we would not be doing is pulling the data, allow local editing on your website and then try to sync the data back to Vimeo (probably not possible) or to store the data locally, allow local editing and then attempt to update the data with what’s on the Vimeo server.

Would you prefer regular updates of the Vimeo description or to pull the data once and then allow local editing (no sync back to Vimeo).

Let us know more about your workflow when you get the chance.

    Hi Alec,

I agree that syncing back to Vimeo could be problematic.
I think regular updates would be preferable however I’d be happy to just pull the data once if that were a simpler option for your coding.

Ideally, my workflow would be to have all the video info/data in one place (vimeo), using FV Player as the site container, simply displaying all the info from Vimeo. In this case I would only have to setup playlists based on a vimeo ‘showcase’ and all the info (thumbnail, video length, synopsis could be managed in one place.

    Hello William,

once you upgrade to FV Player 7.5.1.727 (the free base plugin) you should start to see the Vimeo description (first 20 words) in your Vimeo albums, channels or portfolios once they update.

This applies if you set your player to use the “Vertical Season” playlist style. A demo can be seen here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/vimeo-channel-support

    Thanks,
    Martin
