protecting rtmp via username / passwprd.

    Hello,

Is there anything that documents the syntax of the FV player short codes?

Is it possible to secure a rtmp stream using this syntax:

    rtmp://user:pass@xxxx.com/path/file.flv ?

Also, is it possible to specify

rtmps://<….> …. I can test this outside of wordpress (which is where the plugin is loaded), but inside of wordpress, this fails.

    Thanks.

    Hello N_Davis,

since RTMP is not an open format it offers better protection than the modern HTML5 formats, but it’s also not supported by mobile devices. Flash is really getting deprecated and fewer people are installing it.

Perhaps FV Player doesn’t recognize RTMP server URL like rtmp://user:pass@xxxx.com but if it would, the password would likely be visible in the HTML code.

To really make the password (almost) invisible it would have to be hardcoded to the SWF file.

FV Player Pro supports HLS encryption which is a simple DRM technology and fully compatible with mobile: https://foliovision.com/player/securing-your-video/hls-stream Since it works with Amazon Web Services we are actively looking for an alternative which would be easier to use.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I would prefer not to use flash, however, this is an exercise in moving existing content from an external to internal solution; the pre-existing media is all flash.

The ‘quickest’ route was to keep everything as flash. With regards to the rtmp stream, firstly, its via rtmps and secondly, it requires username/password authentication. On the media server side, this works (via a tool like rtmpdump). The page with the fv player is itself password protected. So whilst it is true that the rtmp url contains the username / password, at least the page itself is authenticated. There are many other more appropriate approaches, but it is a trade off against time to implement.

I cannot seem to persuade the FV Player plugin to accept a rmtp stream of the form:

rtmps://xxx.xxx:port/live?username@password .. I have seen other plugin with syntax similar to

    rtmps://username:password@xx.xx:port/live:flv:/path/n.flv

    For rtmpdump, this suffices:

    rtmpdump -r rtpms://xxx.xx:port/live/file.flv -C S:username -C S:password.

    Regards

    Hello,

I tested that and it appears we are passing the URL into the player correctly. So I guess the Flowplayer library which we use as the core player doesn’t recognize this.

    Thanks,
    Martin
