Post with Multiple Video Links – Audio keeps playing when you click new links

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Bug Reports › Post with Multiple Video Links – Audio keeps playing when you click new links

  • Devin 5 years, 9 months ago

    Hi Martin and Foliovision Team,

I just noticed something on a new post I just published…
    Here is the post https://countryguitaronline.com/johnny-cash-style-rhythm-and-fills-guitar-lesson/

You will need to log in as a subscriber to test this. I will send you a login to the support at foliovision email.

After you log in, head to that post and if you click through the different video links that I have under the Strumming Pattern, Bass Line Walks, Guitar Scales, and Fill Riffs tabs…I notice that after clicking through several links, sometimes the audio keeps playing from the previous link creating multiple audio tracks playing over the top of each other. Sometimes clicking on a new link will play the video from the previous link click.

I’ve tried Chrome, Firefox, and Safari…also have cleared cache and purged my CDN several times and it seems to be acting up a bit in all browsers. My other posts with links seem to be working ok and there’s nothing different about the posts.

Do you have any ideas on how I could fix this?

    Thanks!
    Devin

    Hi Devin,

I’ve tested the video that you’ve sent and I am experiencing the same issue as you are.

I’ve forwarded this report to Martin for a fix. He’ll get in touch with you in the close future.

Thanks for clear explanation and patience,

    Juraj

    Hello Devin,

seems like a bug in the Hls.js library. FV Player uses version 0.11.0, but I’m noticing version 0.12.4 is out. We will put that into FV Player and send you a link to test with.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Great, thanks Martin. I will keep an eye out for it.

    Hello Devin,

here’s the FV Player with the new HLS.js library in it for your test: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/86778548-new-hls-js.zip Just install that like any other plugin, but make sure you remove FV Player first as then it would fail to activate.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I just installed the new version and did some testing. It seems like most video links work correctly, but the links on my most recent post are still behaving the same way when you click back and forth between different links. It happens a lot on the video under the “Bass Line Walks” tab on this post https://countryguitaronline.com/johnny-cash-style-rhythm-and-fills-guitar-lesson/

I cleared my website cache, purged my CDN, cleared browser cookies and cache. It still seems to be happening in Chrome and Firefox on my end. Do you still have the login I sent so you can test it out? Maybe the CDN is still holding on to the old code and hasn’t purged completely. I’ll test it again later today.

Let me know if you need any other information.

    Thanks,
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

I’m able to see that issue as well, It’s not related to any cache.

I figured out that the underlying issue is that anytime one of these video time links are hit it tries to load the video again. And while doing that it doesn’t discard the already running HLS.js instance.

Please reinstall from https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/86778548-new-hls-js.zip again and it should work properly now.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Perfect! It works great now. Thanks for figuring it out. Really nice to have that feature up and running again! When this update is pushed down through the regular FV Player updates to everyone in their WordPress dashboards, will I get a notification to update FV Player just like everyone else? Or will I need to download the correct Release version from the Foliovision website to install myself?

    Thanks,
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

you will see the update available in your WordPress, so you can just use that when you see it.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I hope your week is going well. I just ran the latest FV Player update to 7.4.2.727 and after the update the player started giving me the same issues when I click through multiple video links. Does the latest plugin update include the change that you made to the plugin link you sent through GitHub? I went ahead and installed the previous version on my site for now.

    Thanks!
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

sorry about that, I forgot to merge that branch. Please reinstall FV Player from this link? https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/master.zip Then it will work.

Also, the video links are now based on the database IDs, but the old ones keep working.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Perfect, thanks Martin. One quick question… When I add a new post and I add videos to the edit post page, I always just copy and paste the shortcode and then copy/paste the new Vimeo link into the shortcode. I don’t use the FV Player button on the edit post page to add a video every time so I don’t think the videos are being added to the FV database since I’m just copying the shortcode. Can I still use my old method of copying/pasting the shortcode when I add videos going forward? Or do I need to add a video with the FV Player button? I usually like working with the shortcode manually because it’s a bit quicker for me.

    Thanks,
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

what you are doing will continue working, although you might not get some of the new features which depend on the database storage. But perhaps we will decide to store a “shadow” data even for these [fvplayer src=""] shortcodes.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I hope you’re having a good week. It seems like my video links are acting up again when there are multiple links on the same post. You’ll need to log in again to my site countryguitaronline.com to test. The login I sent to the foliovision support email address should still work. Let me know if you need me to resend.

Here’s what I am seeing on my end…
    When I click on a lesson post… here’s the latest https://countryguitaronline.com/how-to-play-a-solo-in-c-for-bluegrass-and-country/
Then I click on the “Full Breakdown” tab…I click on the 0:00 link in the table and it works…then if I click on the “Measures 1 through 4 and Soloing Tips” link next to it, it doesn’t work. Then if I click on another link..let’s say “20:00″…it works, but then if I try to click again on the 0:00 link it doesn’t work.

Can you replicate the issue? I’m having trouble in both Chrome and Firefox.

Let me know if you need any other information.

    Thanks!
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

I can see that issue. I put in a fix for the next release, you can also reinstall FV Player from this link to get the fix right now: https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/master.zip

    Thanks,
    Martin

This btw, Devin, is an issue where the problem is in our code. We appreciate your input and are happy to solve it for you.
